On Saturday, April 20th, infamous stoner duo Cheech and Chong will blaze a trail across the social media space as they hang out with fans around the world in celebration of their new animated feature-length film, Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie!, arriving in theaters April 18th and on Blu-ray & DVD April 23rd.

The comedy team will kick off the day with an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit, taking pit stops through Twitter, Facebook and Google before ending the day with a Livestream countdown to 4:20 with fan interaction and video content from their movie with exclusive commentary!

Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie is directed by Branden Chambers and Eric D. Chambers and will be released to a limited number of theatres on April 18th, just in time for the appropriate 4/20 “holiday.”  Their latetest comedy outing brings to life the characters from their Ode Records GRAMMY Award winning albums.  The animation for the film, produced by Lou Adler, Branden Chambers and Eric D. Chambers, was produced entirely at Los Angeles-based Chambers Bros. Animation.   The soundtrack for the film features nine hilarious new tracks produced by legendary and original Ode Records producer Lou Adler and Dominic Kelly, Eric Chambers, Branden Chambers and Paris Chong.  Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have recorded a special commentary for each track, which will be availably exclusively through Spotify.  The DVD/Blu Ray from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment of the feature-length film will be available beginning April 23, through all retailers.

The film’s soundtrack is now available through all digital retailers from Ode Sounds & Visuals, distributed by The Orchard.

With nine albums released from 1972 through 1985, the duo was nominated for four GRAMMY Awards, winning the GRAMMY Award for Best Comedy Album with their third album, Los Cochinos, released in 1973.  Big Bambu, their second album, was the biggest selling comedy record of all time in 1972 and remained so for many years.  Their stunningly successful comedy streak transitioned to film in 1978 with their first movie, Up In Smoke, the highest grossing comedy of the year topping $100 million at the box office.  Cheech and Chong co-wrote and starred in a total of eight feature films together.  In 2008, audiences were thrilled when the legendary Cheech and Chong reunited after 25 years apart, and embarked on the “Light Up America” comedy tour.  The pop culture duo performed for more than 100 shows and quickly became one of the most sought after live shows.

‘Cheech and Chong’ get animated…

On the heels of the Cheech & Chong Light Up America Tour, Big Vision Entertainment has decided they will produce an animated movie about the doobie-smoking dudes. Brothers Eric and Braden Chambers will direct the film, based on the classic comedy bits that made Cheech & Chong famous. The film is set to be titled ‘Cheech and Chongs Smokin Animated Movie’ and is likely to be a direct-to-DVD release.

“It’s great to be doing a movie where Cheech and I never have to get out of bed or be on camera,” Chong said.

“It’s about time that we got animated because we’ve been doing animation without the animation for years,” Marin said. “Whether you watch it smokin’ a fattie or stone-cold sober, it’s just plain funny.”

Cheech and Chong Re-Unite for Concert Movie!

I have some great news for Cheech and Chong fans!

The Weinstein Company have partnered with Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and their managers Ben Feigin and Josh Klein to produce a concert movie to memorialize the comic duo’s reunion and first tour together in 25 years.

As part of the arrangement, TWC has worldwide theatrical, home video, digital and television rights. The feature-length program, which will portray a live concert experience of the “Cheech & Chong: Light Up America” tour, is expected to make a major TV premiere, followed by the DVD release.

“‘The Cheech and Chong Concert Movie’ will be an historic, must-experience event for the many fans that grew up listening to their recordings and watching their movies,” said Barry Gordon, EVP of Home Entertainment at TWC. “For the millions of new fans who have discovered Cheech and Chong over the years as cultural icons, this will be the first time many of them will be able to enjoy the artistry and one-of-kind magic that is Cheech and Chong live on stage. This is the comedy event of the decade.”

“It’s great to get a chance to cap a long career with a show of where we are now,” said Marin.

Chong stated, “I really like Harvey because he picked up my dinner tab.”

Start of production and official release dates are to be announced.

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong’s phenomenal success began on the stand-up comedy circuit and led to eight hit films and nine comedy albums, which garnered multiple Grammy nominations. The “Cheech & Chong: Light Up America” reunion tour officially kicked off on September 26th, 2008 and has been selling out across the country. Many of the dates have needed to add multiple shows each night to meet demand. The tour will continue through 2009, and will bring the duo overseas to multiple continents.

Cheech and Chong, finally back together …

Yeah, it’s not necessarily “movie” news … but it’s still awesome! Besides, they used to make movies together. Now, finally back together after something like 25 years working separately, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong are rejoining once again for a new comedy tour called “Hey, What’s that Smell?” promoted by Live-Nation. Details on the tour will be announced on Wednesday, July 29 at West Hollywood’s Troubadour.
