Dreamworks Animation Is Off To The Races With High-Octane Cast For TURBO In 2013

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. today announced that Ryan Reynolds will lead an all-star cast including Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzman, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg and Samuel L. Jackson in the Company’s upcoming original film Turbo, which tells the story of an ordinary garden snail with dreams of racing greatness. Turbo is scheduled to come to the big screen on July 19, 2013.

“Ryan Reynolds’ infectious enthusiasm and humor will bring life to the lead role of Turbo and set the tone for this amazing roster of all-star voice talent,” said DreamWorks Animation Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke. “This high-octane journey will take audiences on the race of their lives and completely re-define the traditional notion of moving at a snail’s pace!”

David Soren (Merry Madagascar), a DreamWorks Animation veteran as a story artist, voice actor and director, is set to direct the film based on his own original concept. Soren is co-writing the script with Robert Siegel (The Wrestler) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After). Lisa Stewart (Monsters vs. Aliens, Almost Famous) is producing with Susan Rogers serving as co-producer.

TURBO is a snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world, just like his hero, 5-time Indianapolis 500 champ, Guy Gagne. His obsession with speed and all things fast has made him an oddity and outsider in the slow and cautious snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his careful older brother, Chet. Turbo desperately wishes he could escape the slow-paced life he’s living. As luck would have it, he gets that chance one fateful day after a freak accident when he suddenly finds himself vested with the power of incredible speed. Turbo embarks on an extraordinary journey to achieve the impossible: racing against the best that IndyCar has to offer. Turbo is the ultimate underdog who achieves the impossible by refusing to let his limitations get in the way of his dreams.

All of DreamWorks Animation’s feature films are now being produced in 3D. The 2 Company has theatrically released a total of 23 animated feature films, including the franchise properties of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.

DreamWorks Animation’s All-Star Cast For ME & MY SHADOW Features Josh Gad, Bill Hader and Kate Hudson

DreamWorks Animation SKG, today announced that Tony Award™ nominee Josh Gad (Love and Other Drugs), who currently appears on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, will star as Stanley, Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs) as his shadow, and Academy-Award® nominee Kate Hudson (Almost Famous, Something Borrowed) as Heidi in Me & My Shadow , coming to the big screen on November 13, 2013. In this original feature film conceived at DreamWorks Animation, the studio will pioneer a groundbreaking combination of both CG and traditional animation techniques, which will be used seamlessly to create a never-before-seen movie experience.

Animation veteran Alessandro Carloni, who most recently served as head of story on DreamWorks Animation’s Academy Award®-nominated How to Train Your Dragon, will make his directorial debut on Me & My Shadow . Melissa Cobb ( Kung Fu Panda , Kung Fu Panda 2) will produce and Jeff Hermann ( Kung Fu Panda , Kung Fu Panda 2) will co-produce. Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart) are writing the screenplay. The original script was written by Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman.

“The hilarious chemistry between Josh Gad, Bill Hader and Kate Hudson couldn’t be more exciting to watch as they bring to life our trio of lead characters in Me & My Shadow ,” said DreamWorks Animation Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke. “Alessandro has proven to be a creative genius at DreamWorks Animation for over a decade and we look forward with a huge amount of enthusiasm as he takes on his feature film directing debut with us.”

“I cannot begin to express my excitement over the opportunity to direct Me & My Shadow, an original movie that makes innovative use of both cutting edge CGI technology and time-honored animated techniques in an inventive new way,” added Carloni.

Prior to his work on How to Train Your Dragon, Carloni worked with DreamWorks Animation in a number of capacities, including supervising animator on the Academy Award®-nominated Kung Fu Panda . Carloni joined DreamWorks Animation in 2002, bringing with him a wide variety of award-winning experience within the animation industry, creating feature and short animated films as well as commercials and music videos. He has served as animator, co-director, animation director, sculptor, special effects supervisor, storyboard and visual development artist and designer throughout his career.

Me & My Shadow reveals the once secret world of shadows and their human counterparts. Stan, our hero’s shadow, yearns for a more exciting life but happens to be stuck with Stanley Grubb, a timid guy with an extreme aversion to adventure. When a crime in the shadow world puts both of their lives in danger, Stan is forced to take control of Stanley. They go on a madcap adventure to investigate the crime and stop the shadow villain from leading a rebellion where shadows take over the human world. During this adventure, Stan empowers Stanley to let go of his fears and embrace life. Through their adventure, they both learn that one cannot be whole without a true friend.

Trailer for HOODWINKED TOO! HOOD VS. EVIL

From the team that brought you HOODWINKED, the comedic portrayal of the fairy tale Red Riding Hood, comes the all-new animated family comedy HOODWINKED TOO! HOOD VS. EVIL in 3D. Here’s a first look at the new trailer.

So are you Hood or Evil?

Synopsis:

The good… the bad… the Twitchy. The sequel finds our heroine, Red (Hayden Panettiere), training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood. But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from Nicky Flippers (David Ogden Stiers), who returns as head of the super-secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka the HEA. A wicked witch (Joan Cusack) has abducted two innocent children, Hansel (Bill Hader) and Gretel (Amy Poehler), and Nicky needs Red for the search-and-rescue mission. Of course, what is a sequel without guest stars from the original? Thankfully, Granny (Glenn Close) and the rest of the HOODWINKED gang—including the ever-clueless Wolf (Patrick Warburton) and his over-caffeinated little partner, Twitchy (Cory Edwards), join Red to solve the forest’s latest caper. Fracturing fairy tales and pop culture with good-natured glee, HOODWINKED TOO! Review: ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’

cloudymeatballs

From the children’s picture book of the same name, Columbia Pictures,  and  Sony Pictures Animation, comes ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,’  a tasty tale of an all-you-can-eat  buffet gone wrong. A well meaning inventor, Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader), has been trying to come up with the one thing that’ll put his experiments (spray on shoes, monkey  thought translator)  on the map, while trying to  help people  at the same time. But everytime his inventions go bust, Flint’s  heavily eyebrowed  Dad (James Caan) frowns on his attempts and tries to persuade him to join the family business. Added to his distress, Flint has been forever bothered and pestered by town brute Brent (Adam Samberg). Aided by Steve the Chimp (Neil Patrick Harris), Flint forges ahead  with his next invention, a water to food machine, and when he  tests his newest creation, it’s accidentally  sent into Earth’s orbit.  Along with  Sam Sparks (Anna Faris), the new, spunky weathergirl, and the locals of the seaside town of Swallow Falls, Flint is  surprised to  see his  machine  pouring down  all kinds of salivating food instead of  rain and everyone celebrates the wonderboy. Like manna from heaven comes mutated  pancakes, juice, ice cream, hamburgers, but after a while, instead of feeding the masses, all these edibles become a virtual food storm with an ala carte spaghetti twister. Flint and  the citizens of  Swallow Falls  now have to find a way to save the world’s appetite from his out of control smorgasbord.

Directors/screenwriters Phil Lord and Chris Miller have taken the  sweet children’s book by Judi and Ron Barrett and  made a film than can stand apart from the 1978 classic. Their hammy, food filled  script will have you chuckling, with lines like, “a breakfast system is on its way…my forecast? Sunny – sideup.”   Be on the lookout for the laughable, standout  characters  of Earl Devereaux (Mr. T), the bubble-butted town cop, his son Cal Deveraux (Bobb’e J. Thompson), and the  conniving Mayor Shelbourne (perfectly voiced by Bruce Campbell) trying to  cash-in on Flint’s food making machine, along  with the additional happenin’ cast of Anna Faris, Bill Hader, Adam Samberg,  and Neil Patrick Harris. The palate filled, scrumptious animation, especially the scene  where the main characters   are seen frolicking around in a room full of jello,  is best seen in 3-D and is accompanied by a mouth watering score from Mark Mothersbaugh (‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,’ ‘Rugrats’). Rated PG for some mild language, this family friendly ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ is yummy enough to eat and best served in your local movie theatre.

‘Night at the Museum 2’ Trailer Minus the Kitchen Sink

How can you turn away from a trailer that features this action sequence:

night-museum-2-trailer-still1night-museum-2-trailer-still2night-museum-2-trailer-still3night-museum-2-trailer-still4night-museum-2-trailer-still5night-museum-2-trailer-still6

Now, I know Stallone wasn’t exactly breaking down Ben Stiller or Jonah Hill’s doors to get them to appear in ‘The Expendables,’ but they don’t really need to crowbar this kind of martial arts prowess into a family film like ‘Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.’Â   Not to mention the fact that we are a good three weeks away from seeing this movie referred to as ‘NATM: BOTS.”

Anyway, the trailer for this film comes out this weekend, and MSN has the exclusive hosting duties for it.

In addition to the above, Yuen Woo-ping-esque move, we also get the welcome(?) return of Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt, Owen Wilson as Jedediah Smith, Steve Coogan as Octavius, and that damn, troublesome monkey.   New arrivals include Amy Adams as Ameliah Earhart, Hank Azaria as Kah Mun Rah, Bill Hader as Custer, and…

…wait for it…

Oh, yeah.   You’re seeing that right.

Bill Hader Unveils a Few Details About ‘House of Joel’

bill-hader

Back in January, we brought you the news that Bill Hader was writing a screenplay for a slasher film that would be produced by none other than Judd Apatow.   That news came from a conversation Devin Faraci over at CHUD had with Hader at Sundance.   Now, Faraci is back with a few details about the film straight from Hader, himself.

The film has a tentative title of ‘House of Joel.’Â   Hader will be playing the character of Joel, but this isn’t the killer in the film.

We told you the premise in our initial article, but here it is again just as an FYI:

‘It is definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV, how violence in our culture – this sounds really hoity toity – you watch fucked up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That’s basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house? What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?’

Back in January, Hader wasn’t 100% sure the film would get made, but it is looking more and more likely that Apatow is going to push the film through.   The film is currently set up at Universal.   There is nothing set as far as production goes, but Apatow Pictures is definitely behind the film getting made.

We’ll keep you posted.

Trailer for ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’

cloudywithchancemeatballs

Here’s the first trailer for the new animated movie ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ based on the children’s book written by Judi Barrett and illustrated by Ron Barrett. The movie is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller for Sony Picture Animation and stars the voice talent of Anna Faris, Bill Hader, Bruce Campbell, Andy Samberg, James Caan, Tracy Morgan and, yes… Mr. T!

Plot: A scientist trying to solve world hunger encounters a problem of global proportions, as food begins to fall from the sky. — IMDB

The trailer looks like fun, but I’m not familiar with the book and I’m not sure whether this is one that will hold the attention of viewers older than, say… 6 years of age. The animation looks alright, but not as good as is possible. It strikes me as an attempt to give CGI a claymation look. Then again, it may be playing off the style of illustration in the book. Either way, the movie opens in theaters on September 18, 2009.
