Dwayne Johnson Stars in First SAN ANDREAS Trailer

SAN ANDREAS

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the brand new trailer for next summer’s disaster-suspense film SAN ANDREAS.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Ioan Gruffudd, Archie Panjabi, Hugo Johnstone-Burt, Art Parkinson and Paul Giamatti.

Shot on location in The Gold Coast and Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, SAN ANDREAS is slated to open in theatres in both 3D and 2D format on Friday, May 29, 2015.

This isn’t the first film where Southern California has been destroyed on the silver screen. SAN FRANCISCO (1936) is based on the April 18, 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Directed by Woody Van Dyke, the drama stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald, and Spencer Tracy.

AIRPORT originated the 1970s disaster film genre and audiences were deluged with a series of movies including the original EARTHQUAKE (1974). These films always included a huge cast, where many of the actors usually perished by the climax.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy, Lorne Greene, Geneviève Bujold, Richard Roundtree, Marjoe Gortner, Barry Sullivan, Lloyd Nolan, Victoria Principal, and Walter Matthau, EARTHQUAKE was released by Universal Pictures on November 15, 1974.

Budgeted at $7,000,000, EARTHQUAKE found itself in a race against the clock with the bigger-budgeted disaster film, THE TOWERING INFERNO, which was being financed by two studios (20th Century Fox and Warner Bros., a motion picture first) and produced by Irwin Allen (THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE).

It is was also known for the collapse of Mulholland Dam – and the subsequent deluge – at the end of the movie, and a sound effect called Sensurround which created the sense of actually experiencing an earthquake in theatres.

Win Run-Of-Engagement Passes To I ORIGINS in St. Louis; Watch New Clips From Mike Cahill’s Film

poster-f41e81a0-10c9-4f15-9896-466805d9f0b6

I ORIGINS tells the story of Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt), a molecular biologist studying the evolution of the eye. He finds his work permeating his life after a brief encounter with an exotic young woman (Astrid Bergès- Frisbey) who slips away from him.

As his research continues years later with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling), they make a stunning scientific discovery that has far reaching implications and complicates both his scientific and spiritual beliefs. Traveling half way around the world, he risks everything he has ever known to validate his theory.

Like director Mike Cahill’s first film, 2011 Sundance Film Festival winner ANOTHER EARTH, I ORIGINS is a personal and unconventional exploration of the mysteries of the scientific world. To Cahill, scientists are important role models for filmmakers.

“They spend their lives asking the big questions,” he explains. “Why are we here? What are we made of? They explore the minutest levels of matter and they look at the biggest things, like the universe. I wish I were a scientist, but I’m a filmmaker, so I make films about scientists.”
