The Weinstein Company has released a brand new, seven plus minute featurette for their highly anticipated film, THE HATEFUL EIGHT, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
THE HATEFUL EIGHT will have a 70 mm roadshow release in select theaters starting on Christmas Day.
Not sure what a roadshow is? Watch below to hear all about it, straight from Quentin Tarantino and the cast members.
In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff.
Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Demian Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Bruce Dern).
As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all… (Trailer)
THE HATEFUL EIGHT hits theaters on December 25, 2015 (70 mm release), January 8, 2016 (nationwide).
The brothers-in-law are back and heading from Atlanta to Miami.

In the 3D animated comedy, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, we’ll finally find out why the birds are so angry.
The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders.
But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.
The all-star voice cast includes Bill Hader (Trainwreck, Inside Out), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), as well as Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele), Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live, next year’s Ghostbusters), Tony Hale (Veep, Arrested Development), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, Neighbors), Hannibal Buress (Broad City, Why? With Hannibal Buress), Jillian Bell (22 Jump Street), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), Latin music sensation Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh (Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla).
The Columbia Pictures/Rovio Entertainment film is directed by Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis and produced by John Cohen and Catherine Winder. The screenplay is by Jon Vitti, and the film is executive produced by Mikael Hed and David Maisel.
THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE flies into theaters on May 20, 2016.
When I reviewed MINIONS here ate We Are Movie Geeks back in July, I wrote: “Those goggle-eyed scene-stealers from DESPICABLE ME (and its sequel) get their own showcase in MINIONS, a colorful, fast-paced prequel that kids will have fun with ……There’s a lot of fun to be had with the period music and references to Nixon, the moon landing, and the Swinging London of that time period. I’m not sure small children will laugh when the Minions pop out of a sewer lid on Abbey Road just as the Beatles are making their famous crossing, but I did. Voiced by the film’s directors Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda jabbering in a helium-fueled garble, the Minions are pure slapstick gold….” (read all of my review HERE)
MINIONS will be released by Universal on DVD, Blu-ray and DVD/3D/Blu-ray Combo Pack on December 8th and We Are Movie Geeks has had a sneak peek:
MINION’s Universal’s 1080p/AVC-encoded video image doesn’t disappoint. Colors are vibrant and impeccably saturated, contrast is dead on, black levels are nice and inky, and detail is straight-from-the-digital-tap flawless. Edges are razor sharp, textures are wonderfully refined, and every ounce of magic the animators inject to the film makes a seamless transition to Blu-ray. MINIONS looks every bit as good as it could.
MINION’s DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround audio track is worthy of great praise. Dialogue is clean, clear and naturally grounded in the mix, and prioritization is as perfect as it gets. MINION’s lossless audio track gets the job done on all fronts.
The MINIONS Blu-ray contains quite a few extras:
A 3-D disc (I don’t have a 3D TV so I can’t judge that), DVD copy of the film, and a voucher for a UV/iTunes digital copy are all included.
Mini-Movies Three hilarious shorts, each running about 4 minutes: 1)CroMinion: Minions are left in charge of a prehistoric baby. 2)Jingle Bells Minions Style: The Minions perform the Christmas favorite in their own unique way. 3)Competition: A couple of minions compete against one another, building to an explosive crescendo.
One Deleted Scene runs 30 seconds Me, Myself and Stuart.
Around the World Interactive Map: Selecting available points on a map reveals various video and still photo features.
Behind the Goggles — The Illumination Story of The Minions – is a series of short featurettes:
Writers runs 4 minutes and features screenwriter Brian Lynch discussing the minions
The Boss’ Office is a 5-minute interview with Illumination Founder and Producer Chris Meledandri
Art Dept. runs 3 minutes and features Character Designer Eric Guillon, Art Director Oliver Adam, and Writer Brian Lynch discussing the designs of these characters.
Recording Studio runs 3 minutes and features composer Heitor Pereira, Producer Janet Healy, Illumination Founder and Producer Chris Meledandri, and Directors Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin discussing the music .
Jingle Bells Minions Style: The Minions perform the Christmas favorite in their own unique way.
From Well Go USA Entertainment comes Australian filmmaker Ariel Kleiman’s directorial debut PARTISAN starring Vincent Cassel, Jeremy Chabriel, and Florence Mezzara. The release will be available for purchase on December 8 but We Are Movie Geeks has three copies of the Blu-ray to give away in advance.
On the edge of a crumbling city, 11-year-old Alexander (Jeremy Chabriel) lives in a sequestered commune, alongside other children, their mothers, and charismatic leader, Gregori (Vincent Cassel). Gregori teaches the children how to raise livestock, grow vegetables, work as a community – and how to kill. As Alexander nears his first job as an assassin, he begins to question the ways of the commune, particularly Gregori’s quiet but overpowering influence. Threatened by Alexander’s increasing unwillingness to fall in line, Gregori’s behavior turns erratic and adversarial toward the child he once considered a son. With the two set dangerously at odds and the commune’s way of life disintegrating, the residents fear a violent resolution is at hand in this Sundance award-winning thriller.
The critics love PARTISAN!
Peter Howell from The Toronto Star wrote:
“….Newcomer Jeremy Chabriel commands as 11-year-old Alexander, a chosen son whose dawning sense of right and wrong challenges the social order. An auspicious beginning, for him and Kleiman.”
Sarah Winshall from Under the Radar says:
“….Vincent Cassel’s primal physicality and threatening charm are front and center in this taut dystopian fable.”
Simi Horwitz from Film Journal International says PARTISAN is a:
“….Dark, chilling, impressive film about the training of child assassins in a sequestered commune led by a charismatic figure, played to perfection by Vincent Cassel.”
Earlier this year, PARTISAN won Best Cinematography Award/World Cinema – Dramatic (Germain McMicking) at the Sundance Film Festival.

Make sure this album is on your list this holiday season. The KRAMPUS – THE ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK will release digitally on December 4, 2015, on Back Lot Music.
The album features the original music created by composer Douglas Pipes (MONSTER HOUSE, TRICK ‘R TREAT), pre-orders available now on iTunes. A CD is forthcoming, while Waxwork Records will distribute the soundtrack on vinyl, pre-orders available starting December 4th at www.waxworkrecords.com. The digital album also features a bonus track of the popular tune “Carol of the Bells,” rewritten and appropriately retitled “Krampus Karol of the Bells.”
When creating the score, Pipes wanted to remain true to the spirit of Christmas. “We used melodies of Christmas carols, sometimes just fragments, sometimes altered, as well as traditional Christmas instruments throughout,” said Pipes. He knew it was going into dark fantasy-horror territory, but to make the score unique Pipes created a theme for KRAMPUS that could work as a simple folk melody and a grand fantasy tale, while evoking a sense that it could be some lost European Christmas melody. “The greatest challenge for the score was moving through Christmas themes and comedy, into a dark fantasy tale, punctuated by aggressive horror music, without losing the thread of any of these styles – all the while keeping the Christmas spirit present.”
Douglas Pipes is a film composer based in Los Angeles, whose feature films include the Academy Award-nominated Sony animated feature MONSTER HOUSE and Warner Bros/Legendary Films cult hit TRICK ‘R TREAT. Awards include “Compositor Revelacion” at the 3rd International Film Music Conference in Ubeda, Spain, and “Best Animation” at the Royal Television Society in the United Kingdom. Nominations include “Discovery of the Year” at the 2006 World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium, “Best Music” at the 2007 Saturn Awards, and “Best Horror Score” and “Best New Composer” from the International International Film Music Critics Association (2006 and 2009).
Pipes also works with the alt-rock band The Airborne Toxic Event, providing arrangements and orchestrations for performances with the Louisville Orchestra, Colorado Symphony and Orange County’s Pacific Symphony. Aside from KRAMPUS, recent projects include a score for Alfred Hitchcock’s THE LODGER silent film, which was commissioned by the Dallas Chamber Symphony, the indie comedy LITTLE PARADISE just released on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital formats, and the Lifetime feature films IF THERE BE THORNS AND SEEDS OF YESTERDAY.
Legendary Pictures’ KRAMPUS, a darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul, reveals an irreverently twisted side to the holiday.
When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.
All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive. (Trailer)

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? screens Thursday December 3rd at 7:00pm at Schlafly Bottleworks
The 1962 shocker WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? blended PSYCHO with SUNSET BOULEVARD to compelling effect. One of the great movies about the movies, (and the best movies about the movies bite the hand that feeds them), and the best of director Robert Aldrich’s ‘women’s pictures’. It’s about a couple of self-loathing sisters hauled up together in a decaying Hollywood mansion, a too-close-to-home study of the real life rivalry between stars Bette Davis and Joan Crawford or even as a veiled study of homosexual self-depreciation with the sisters as aging drag queens. But these are the very things that make the picture great. It is precisely because it can be read in this way that makes WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? such a perversely enjoyable, subversive piece of work.
As the sisters, Davis and Crawford pull all the stops out and then some. What makes Crawford’s performance great is that she is never sympathetic even when Davis is feeding her dead rat or quite literally kicking her when she’s down, while Davis is simply astonishing. With her face painted like a hideous Kabuki mask and dressed up like a doll that’s filled with maggots it’s an unashamedly naked piece of acting, as revealing as her work in ALL ABOUT EVE and almost as good. After the success of WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?, every actress of a certain age got to star in their own ‘Hag Horror’ film including HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE(Davis with Olivia DeHavilland), WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HELEN (Shelley Winters and Debbie Reynolds), WHATEVER HAPPENED TO AUNT ALICE (Geraldine Page), DIE DIE MY DARLING (Tallulah Bankhead), THE NANNY (Bette Davis again), and more, some better than others, but this bitch-fest is the real McCoy.
Now you’ll have the chance to see WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? when it plays on the big screen this Thursday night (December 3rd) at Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue Maplewood, MO 63143). The show begins at 7:30pm.
Brought to you by A Film Series, Schlafly Bottleworks, AUDP and Real Living Gateway Real Estate.
Doors open at 6:30pm.
$6 for the screening. A yummy variety of food from Schlafly’s kitchen is available as are plenty of pints of their famous home-brewed suds.
