Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Crimson Peak

A sheltered young woman abandons the safe certainty of her upbringing for life with an alluring aristocrat on a remote English estate in Crimson Peak, a visually stunning and intensely disturbing thriller from writer and director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy), coming to Digital HD on January 26, 2016, and Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on February 9, 2016, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Legendary Pictures.

Brilliantly unforgettable visuals and an atmosphere steeped in dread make Crimson Peak an elegant, gorgeously realized and completely original horror mystery that has been declared “a masterpiece” by Fox-TV. The Blu-ray Combo Pack comes with more than an hour of bonus features that reveal some of the terrifying secrets hidden behind the doors of sinister Allerdale Hall.

From the imagination of director Guillermo del Toro comes a terrifying Gothic romance masterpiece starring Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor series), Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, The Help), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Stoker) and Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim, FX’s “Sons of Anarchy”).

BONUS FEATURES EXCLUSIVELY ON BLU-RAY

Cobb), the appeals of the dead man’s sister (Eva Marie Saint) and a crusading priest (Karl Malden) awaken Terry’s guilty conscience. Despite a brutal beating at the hands of Friendly’s goons, love prompts Terry to seek redemption by cooperating with a crime commission’s investigation into the corrupt waterfront union.

TCM Big Screen Classics: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)Sunday, September 18 and Wednesday, September 21

Through a series of military and political accidents, a pair of psychotic senior military officers – U.S. Air Force Commander Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden) and Joint Chiefs of Staff General “Buck” Turgidson (George C. Scott) – hatch an ingenious, foolproof, and irrevocable plan to unleash a wing of B-52 bombers and their nuclear payloads on strategic targets inside Russia. When the brains behind the scheme, Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers), a wheelchair-bound nuclear scientist with bizarre ideas about man’s future, accidentally activates the bombing mission, even the President of the United States is unable to stop it. The inevitable comes to pass as the efforts of the Pentagon brass and all the politicians in Moscow and Washington cannot undo the cascading series of cataclysmic events.

TCM Big Screen Classics: The Shining (1980)Sunday, October 23 and Wednesday, October 26

From a script he co-adapted from the Stephen King novel, director Stanley Kubrick melds vivid performances, menacing settings, dreamlike tracking shots and shock after shock into a milestone macabre. Universal Pictures Hom Entertainment Minions DVD

This Contest Has Ended

The breakout stars the world fell in love with in Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me global film franchise headline their own movie for the first time in Minions, available on Digital HD November 24, 2015, and on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on December 8, 2015 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

A much anticipated prequel to the unprecedented worldwide blockbusters Despicable Me and the beloved sequel Despicable Me 2, Minions is an immensely entertaining film for all audiences called “inventive and hilarious” by Julian Roman, Movieweb.com. The Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD also come with three all-new mini-movies and even more Minions everyone will want to watch again and again especially during the busy holiday travel season.

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embark upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award®-winner Sandra Bullock), the world’s first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in ‘mod’ London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind…from annihilation.

Obey! – Go See THEY LIVE Midnights This Weekend at The Hi-Pointe

theylive-header

“I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass… and I’m all out of bubblegum!”

theylivewide

THEY LIVE Midnights This Friday and Saturday (December 11th and 12th) at The Hi-Pointe Theater (1005 McCausland Ave, St. Louis) as part of Destroy the Brain’s Late Night Grindhouse film series.

theylivetumblr_mfacoeVuzn1rkrirxo2_1280

Remember when Al Pacino said that bubblegum line three years ago in STAND UP GUYS? He said it with such gusto and confidence, I’m sure he had no idea that it was stolen verbatim from John Carpenter’s 1988 classic THEY LIVE. It bugged me then but STAND UP GUYS is long forgotten while THEY LIVE lives on and has developed an ever-growing cult following.

they-live-post

Wondering what you world would be like if it were run by aliens that were trying to control your minds through subliminal messaging? Well, look no further than John Carpenter’s cult classic THEY LIVE, which is screening this weekend at the Hi-Pointe as part of Destroy the Brain’s monthly Late Night Grindhouse Film Series. The late wresting legend Roddy Piper stars as Nada, a drifter who stumbles upon a pair of sunglasses that show him the truth about his society and the world he inhabits. He discovers that humans are not the only beings to be living on the planet Earth. Nada also knows what he must do to save the human race from complete invasion of these creatures. Does he have enough time and manpower to stop these culprits of communication or will Nada only help them enslave the human race? It will all teeter on the amount of ‘bubblegum’ that he carries with him!

they-live-16
Visionary director Carpenter creates this world not unlike today’s society. Glued to the television and void of independent thought, he shows us a human race that resembles cattle in the fields waiting for the farmer’s next decision.  Carpenter shows us that we can live in a world, even a city, and not realize what is happening around us. How hidden are those subliminal messages in our culture? Maybe John Carpenter has the answers. Or lighten up and don’t take THEY LIVE seriously. It’s a lot of fun without trying to read too much into it. This is the first John Carpenter movie that they’ve shown at the Late Night Grindhouse show, so here’s your chance to see one on the big screen (his first since GHOSTS OF MARS in 2001 to play theatrically in St. Louis)
