Director Mathieu Kassovitz Rips Into Fox About ‘Babylon A.D.’ Experience

Director Mathieu Kassovitz spoke with AMCTV just five days before his newest film, ‘Babylon A.D’, is released into theaters.   His reaction to the film and to working with 20th Century Fox on the project?

“I’m very unhappy with the film,” Kassovitz says. “I never had a chance to do one scene the way it was written or the way I wanted it to be.   The script wasn’t respected.   Bad producers, bad partners, it was a terrible experience.” Continue reading Director Mathieu Kassovitz Rips Into Fox About ‘Babylon A.D.’ Experience

‘Superman’ Going Back to Square One/Warner Bros. Wants Darker Comic Book Movies

First off, let’s start with a quote from Warner Bros. Picture Group President, Jeff Robinov as he spoke with The Wall Street Journal today.

“‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to.   It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.   Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009.   But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.” Continue reading ‘Superman’ Going Back to Square One/Warner Bros. ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ On the Horizon

Dreamworks Animation SKG inc Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg announced Wednesday the studio was in talks to make a sequel to their box office hit ‘Kung Fu Panda’.   Official word could come in the next few months.

The topic came up as Katzenberg was speaking to reporters at a screening for portions of the company’s upcoming ‘Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa’.   The original ‘Kung Fu Panda’, released on June 6 has made over $561 million in worldwide ticket sales.

Paula Wagner Leaving United Artists

Paula Wagner, Tom Cruise’s long-time partner, is planning to leave United Artists.   According to Variety, Wagner, co-owner and CEO of UA, is in negotiations with MGM to forfeit her post at the studio.

Wagner will likely retain an ownership interest in the studio.   It is expected she will leave as soon as post-production on ‘Valkyrie’, the studio’s second film, is completed.   Wagner is also a producer on the upcoming ‘Death Race’ being released by Universal next week.

Paramount says no more Vantage …

//begin sarcasm// Which is the smartest move they could have done, I mean come on..what has it done lately? OK, so No Country for Old Men was OK, and There will be Blood … yeah it was decent.//end sarcasm//

Seriously, this is probably the dumbest move they could have made! Both of the movies mentioned above won OSCARS!

“Paramount Vantage will continue as a production label under president Nick Meyer. But the 2-year-old studio’s marketing, distribution and physical production departments will be taken over by its parent. Three senior positions are being cut, including that of Vantage distribution executive VP Rob Schulze.”

So, they didn’t cut it completely, just removed all the people that made it what it is. Like replacing every member of Radiohead and still expecting genius. Dumb.
