New LES MISÉRABLES Photos Of Russell Crowe As Inspector Javert

Check out the new on-set photos of Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert from Universal Pictures upcoming LES MISÉRABLES. The role in Tom Hooper’s period pic seems tailor made for the GLADIATOR, Academy Award winning actor. With his turn as Capt. Jack Aubrey in MASTER AND COMMANDER and the recent news of him taking on the role of NOAH in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical tale, seeing Crowe finally in costume as Javert only confirms the perfect casting. There’s no denying the actor was made for historical movies. I’ll be interested in what Crowe does as Superman’s father, Jor-El, in Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, LES MISÉRABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

In December 2012, the world’s longest-running musical brings its power to the big screen in Tom Hooper’s sweeping and spectacular interpretation of Victor Hugo’s epic tale. With international superstars and beloved songs—including “I Dreamed a Dream,” “Bring Him Home,” “One Day More” and “On My Own”—Les Misérables, the show of shows, is now reborn as the cinematic musical experience of a lifetime.

Based on the Stage Musical from Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables from the novel by Victor Hugo, a screenplay by William Nicholson, Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg & lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, Tom Hooper’s musical epic will be in theaters December 14, 2012.

TRANSFORMERS 3 Bumblebee Car Wreck

More bad news (and a bad scene) from the set of Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: THE DARK OF THE MOON

From Fox 5 News:

WASHINGTON – A D.C. Police SUV was involved in a wreck at the filming of “Transformers 3” in Washington D.C.

While the movie was filming a car chase scene on 3rd Street and Maryland Ave in southwest D.C., the police SUV collides with a yellow Chevy Camaro, which in the movie series is known as the character Bumblebee.

The police SUV was not supposed to be there and the wreck itself was not scripted.

The police officer driving the SUV is a 25-year veteran senior explosive ordinance technician. He was taken to a local hospital and sustained minor injuries.

Law enforcement sources tell FOX 5 that he was driving to a call for a suspicious package incident nearby and was using a different radio channel than the police officers who were securing the perimeter for the movie.

Statement from the Metropolitan Police Department:

“Earlier today, a MPD marked cruiser responding to an emergency assignment, collided with a vehicle involved in the filming of a movie at Third Street and Maryland Avenue, SW. The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No civilian injuries have been reported.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the facts of the crash and filming of this movie on closed DC city streets has been suspended until safety procedures can be reviewed.”

First Look: John Carpenter’s THE WARD

Hat-tip goes to CinemaBlend for this first look at “Master of Horror” John Carpenter’s THE WARD. The 3 photos originally appeared on the Toronto International Film Festival’s website. Additional ones also appeared on the film’s Facebook page.

TIFF’s Description:

When an old farmhouse is set ablaze by Kristen (Amber Heard), a distraught young woman, she is taken by police to the North Bend Psychiatric Hospital. She awakens in a special ward with four similarly unbalanced and wayward girls: Sarah, a flirty and sass-talking know it all; Iris, a sensitive and talented artist who tries to make her feel welcome; Emily, a reckless but playful outcast; and Zoey, who hides behind a childlike persona and her beloved stuffed bunny.

Kirsten’s therapist, Dr. Stringer (Jared Harris), tries to uncover the root cause of her breakdown, but despite his calm and understanding manner, she resists any attempts at help and rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, the hospital is not the sanctuary it seems to be. Kristen begins to have strange run-ins with a shadowy phantom who roams the halls when the ward is locked down at night. Persistent and inquisitive, she goes digging for information about former patients and soon becomes convinced that no one ever leaves the ward alive.

The Ward marks a resurgence in director John Carpenter’s celebrated stylistic mojo, with his trademark prowling camera, jump scares, and the sort of atmospherics that typified The Fog and Prince of Darkness.

Set in the sixties, the film’s tone and style have much in common with the works of one of horror’s great, under-recognized masters, Val Lewton, while also nodding in the direction of Samuel Fuller’s cult classic Shock Corridor. Led by previous Midnight Madness starlet Amber Heard, the titular lead from All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Carpenter’s cast of locked-up bad girls brings the picture to life.

THE WARD is Carpenter’s return to form after a decade-long absence, further proof that he deserves the mainstream critical respect and recognition of an American auteur.

From a screenplay by Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen, THE WARD will be shown at TIFF on September 13 and 19. For more on Carpenter’s film, like it on Facebook and visit the website here.

Sean Penn in THIS MUST BE THE PLACE

Thanks to Sasha Stone at Awards Daily, here’s a first look at Sean Penn in THIS MUST BE THE PLACE. Wow! Shooting on the indie for Indigo Films began in Ireland on August 16th and will continue for the next few weeks. This is the first English language film for Italian director Paolo Sorrentino (IL DIVO).

Plot summary from imdb:

Cheyenne, a wealthy former rock star (Penn), now bored and jaded in his retirement embarks on a quest to find his father’s persecutor, an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the U.S. Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late. Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father’s humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller – an event he is determined to avenge. So begins a life-altering journey across the heartland of America to track down and confront his father’s nemesis. As his quest unfolds, Cheyenne is reawakened by the people he encounters and his journey is transformed into one of reconciliation and self discovery. As his date with destiny arrives and he tracks down Muller, Cheyenne must finally decide if it is redemption he seeks ….or revenge. Starring two time Academy Award winner Sean Penn and marking the much-anticipated English-language debut of acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino, THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a gripping examination of a man on the precipice of obsession.

Here’s a grouch-faced Sean Penn on the Dublin set of This Must Be The Place looking like someone just butt sneezed in his favorite red lipstick. Sean plays a retired rock star who puts on his Detective La Toya monocle to track down the Nazi war criminal responsible for torturing his father at Auschwitz. The Academy is already engraving Sean’s name on an Oscar statute just in case…

I know Sean is trying to give us “post-Biggest Loser Robert Smith” but dude looks more like the crazy cat lady from The Simpsons after sexing herself up for a hot date with a cardboard cutout of Moe.

TRANSFORMERS 3 Chicago Set Photos and Ending

All in a day’s work for Josh Duhamel. MichaelBay.com and AceShowbiz has posted these new set pics from next summer’s TRANSFORMERS 3.

Aceshowbiz.com is also reporting that:

Michael Bay has revealed the final scenes of the third “Transformers” film. Speaking to Chicago Sun-Times, the helmer says they are shooting in Chicago until the end of August and the footage filmed there will be featured as part of the closing sequence.

Swipe to reveal Inviso-text ahead [SPOILER ALERT!] The Chicago footage “is at the very end of the movie and the city is under alien attack, so it’s very critical and important to the film’s climax,” Bay explains. “Something very bad has happened to America – and this is at the very end of the movie.”

They had some additional news on Megan Fox’s replacement, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

She is only said to be new female lead but her specific role was not mentioned. TFW2005 recently visited the Chicago set of the film where the site found out that the character played by Rosie is named Carly. In the animated series, Carly is described as the one who will eventually become Sam Witwicky’s wife. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura himself has confirmed that “Rosie will definitely be [Shia Labeouf’s] love interest though.”

On The Set of Favreau’s COWBOYS & ALIENS

Director Jon Favreau tweeted this peek at the set of his new film COWBOYS & ALIENS, Dreamworks’ and Universal Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of Platinum Studios cross-genre comic. A source on the set told me it’s filled deep with a lot of extras and that shooting began on Thursday, June 10th in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Even one of the film’s stars, Olivia Wilde, tweeted “Its the coolest set ever.”

Favreau is directing Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde, Noah Ringer, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Adam Beach, and Ana De La Reguera in a film that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way. Joined by Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Damon Lindelof, Denis L. Stewart, and Dan Forcey, COWBOYS & ALIENS will be an action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror beyond our world.

The film’s synopsis:

1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move onto its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). Its a town that lives in fear…But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one-by-one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents’ townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors, all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

You can follow the movie’s progress on Twitter or Facebook. From DreamworksSKG and Universal Pictures, COWBOYS & ALIENS will be in theaters next summer on July 29, 2011.

Aaron Eckhart and Aliens BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

Aliens just love to take out Los Angeles, don’t they?  It seems, in recent memory, anyway, they don’t have any problems taking out the land of milk and Hollywood honeys, either.  Well, they’ve never had to contend with a pissed off Aaron Eckhart, have they?  The guy pretty much wiped out the Mob single handedly, and he did it with half a face.  Imagine the kind of destruction he can cause to bad guys when his looks are intact.

io9 got these shots of the upcoming film BATTLE: LOS ANGELES.  Some of them, the ones with the giant e’splosion, were taken by a local Louisian-ian(?) who described the scene being filmed as a “Mushroom cloud of fire caused when production company explodes bus.”

Check ’em out:

The film is currently filming in Louisiana under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman (DARKNESS FALLS and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING).  It is set for release on February 18th, 2011.
