Over the weekend Paramount Pictures released the first 9 minutes from J.J. Abrams’ eagerly-awaited STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. This first-look at the movie played in 288 digital IMAX theatres. Check out the first, emotional teaser below.

In Summer 2013, director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Benedict Cumberbatch Is John Harrison In First Image From STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

Zachary Quinto is Spock, Benedict Cumberbatch is John Harrison and Chris Pine is Kirk in this first photo from STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. At least we know who the villain is now, but that’s about it. The new image from Paramount Pictures is something previously unseen in the teaser released last week. The extended preview of J. J. Stellar First Look At STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS (Videos) – Trailer Bows December 17th

At long last comes our first look at STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and it’s pointy-eared, bad guy – Benedict Cumberbatch (BBC’s “Sherlock”, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY). Is he a Romulan? Is he a Vulcan? Could it possibly be Spock’s half-brother Sybok seen in STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER? More can be seen in the Japanese version after the announcement video.

Come back on December 17th when the first teaser trailer debuts. Can’t wait until then? Paramount Pictures will release the first 9 minutes from J.J. Abrams’ film exclusively in digital IMAX 3D in theaters worldwide on December 14th with various prints of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY. From what we can see in these previews, I wish we didn’t have to wait until May!

Happy Monday STAR TREK fans! Paramount Pictures has sent us this first poster for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS. From the chilling looks of it, either the hero or the villain is surveying the rubble in the shadow of the Starfleet logo found on the crew’s familiar shirts seen on the original TV show. Pretty ingenious!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Official Synopsis Revealed

26 years ago today, one of the best loved and fourth installment of the Star Trek films featuring the original cast – THE VOYAGE HOME – opened in theaters. On November 26, 1986 devout Trekkers flocked to theaters to watch Kirk and company time-travel back to the twentieth century to save the Earth, rescue long-extinct humpback whales and witness the emergence of a new U.S.S. Enterprise. The film garnered four Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, Best Music – Original Score, Best Effects – Sound Effects Editing, and Best Sound.

On May 17, 2013, the crew of the enterprise will once again venture into the unknown and today Paramount Pictures released a new and approved, official synopsis for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

First NINE Minutes Of J.J. Abrams’ STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS To Be Shown On 500 IMAX 3D Screens Beginning December 14

Paramount Pictures will release the first 9 minutes from J.J. Abrams’ eagerly-awaited “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” exclusively in IMAX 3D months prior to the film’s official release in May 2013.  This first-look at the movie will play in approximately 500 digital IMAX 3D theatres beginning December 14th.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS,” the sequel to Abrams’ 2009 hit film that redefined the Star Trek universe for a new generation, marks the first time exclusive footage has played in IMAX 3D and only the third time a first-look will be released in IMAX.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment.  “Their use of the IMAX® Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

To further the IMAX experience, “STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

“STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS” is written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and directed by J.J. Abrams.  Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci. The sequel follows another chapter of the USS Enterprise crew’s exploration into the unknown.Returning to their posts on the Enterprise are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Bruce Greenwood. They are joined by new cast members Peter Weller and Alice Eve.
