The Future of Wehrenberg Theatres

  Wehrenberg Theatres

Fred Wehrenberg’s life was changed after he saw a moving picture at the 1904 World’s Fair. He opened the Cherokee Saloon, a silent film theatre in 1906. The success of the Cherokee inspired Wehrenberg to open the Airdome, an open-air theater (a drive-in without cars). — from Wikipedia

Wehrenberg Theatres is a Saint Louis based, family owned  theatre chain that celebrated its 100th year in business in 2006. Werhenberg is the one of the largest theatre chains in the midwest, with 236 screens in 17 theatres in Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota.

The company recently announced to its more than 800 employees it will consider possibly selling its theatre operations. Among its screens are one Imax screen and several digital projection screens, in addition to their Megascreen, the largest in the midwest. The company cites their interest in selling to be a result of the ever-growing cost of maintaining market share, while competing with larger national chains and the rapidly expanding influence of hi-tech home theatre and home gaming systems.

No Suprises..Cloverfield Number Uno.

cloverfieldheadless.jpg

So, as you all know by now Cloverfield hit number 1 at the box office over the weekend. Grabbing up $43 million monster driven bucks. So what does this tell us?

A) It did great, and will probably continue to do great for a couple weeks.
B) It will cast an image on the movie and probably bring us at least one or two sequels.
C) It really makes me wonder if they will release another movie with different footage from that night, maybe from some other spectators..who knows.

It was a National Treasure weekend.

National Treasure seemed to thump all other competition with 45.5 million over the weekend. Honestly, there is no suprise there for me. However what I am suprised at is the fact that Walk Hard didnt even come in the top 3! Here is a list of the top 5..and Walk Hard.

1) National Treasure; Book of Secrets. 45.5 Million
2) I am Legend. 34.2 Million
3) Alvin and the Chipmunks. 29 Million
4) Charlie Wilson’s War. 9.6 Million
5) Sweeney Todd. 9.3 Millions
..and then bringing up the rear at number 8 Walk Hard with a measly 4.1 Million.
