Even the ‘G.I. Joe’ Marketing Sucks

gijoeslurpee

Yesterday Cinematical posted the Slurpee straws from ‘G.I. Joe’ and the tagline of “Finally! Proof That ‘G.I. Joe’ Will Suck” and then later in the afternoon I was pumping gas at 7/11 and came across this super lame promo for ‘G.I. Joe’.

I really really want to like this movie but this stuff is making me detest it. You can see the straws below:

What do you guys think about this? Make you want to see it more or less now?

‘Sin Nombre’ For Your Consideration Poster

sinnombrefyc

I was having a conversation with Travis this morning and it dawned on me that ‘Sin Nombre’ probably wont get any talks during Oscar Season and that just pisses me off. This movie is amazing and is deserving of one of the 5 10 best picture spots.

Because of this I made the above For Your Consideration poster, I know its early but this movie needs some love all the way up until the votes are cast for best picture. Please spread it around..

If you don’t believe me check out my review here.

New photo from ‘Kick Ass’ and footage to be shown at Comic Con

My main homie Pete over at SlashFilm was given the exclusive for this new photo from ‘Kick-Ass’ which features Chloe Moretz as Mindy Macready aka the ruthless 11-year-old vigilante named Hit Girl.

Pete also announced the news that the first footage from the film will be shown at Comic Con this year, here is what he had to say about that:

The panel will take place on Thursday, July 23 towards the end of the day. Vaughn will be in attendance, along with some of the film’s cast members (to be announced later). This is the biggest non-studio produced comic book movie of all time

For those of you not in the know, ‘Kick-Ass’ is a comic book adaptation and here is the synopsis:

Dave Lizewski is a kid growing up in a rundown suburb of America, he isn’t a gamer, he isn’t a jock, he isn’t a mathlete, he’s just a regular kid. When he is not hanging out at the local comic store with his friends Todd and Marty, he is fantasising about his school teacher and Katie Deauxma, the class hottie. The only thing that is unusual about Dave is that about a year ago his Mother died. But somehow through this blend of normality, teenage angst and irritation at being continually mugged, Dave makes the decision to become a superhero’ KICK ASS! Dave’s first foray into being a Superhero results in him being stabbed and run over. When Dave recovers he realises he can’t walk away from being a hero, and when he successfully steps in on a mugging he brings himself to the attention of the US media and Frank D’Amico could this be the guy who knicked his coke? As Dave gets sucked into the dark world of vigilante crime fighting he gains a sidekick named ‘Red Mist’.

If you haven’t read the comic books then do yourself a favor and go pick them up. Here is another photo that was revealed last year for your viewing pleasure:

theinformanttrailer

The first official trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s ‘The Informant’ has hit and you can view it below. Some of the film was shot here in St Louis and we posted spy photos from some of the scenes that took place at the brewery.

‘The Informant’ is about Ivy League Ph.D. Mark Whitacre (Damon), a rising star at Decatur, Illinois based Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in the early 1990s who wound up blowing the whistle on the company’s price-fixing tactics.

DVD Review: ‘Eastbound & Down’ Season One

eastboundanddownreview

When I tell you that ‘Eastbound & Down’ is the greatest show on television you will argue with me, but your argument will be worthless because Danny McBride will have already kicked your ass. When you combine Jody Hill and Danny McBride then you are guaranteed comic gold platinum diamonds, actually they don’t have a word to describe how amazing those two guys are together.

eastboundlogoboobs

McBride plays Kenny Powers, an over the top former MLB pitcher who after washing out of the majors is forced to move in with his brother who still lives in their hometown of Shelby North Carolina. Out of work, and out of money he has to resort to substitute teaching the PE class and try to figure out a way back to the top.

His former high school sweetheart April is teaching art at the school and is currently engaged to the douchebag principal. Kenny vows to win her heart back which doesn’t take much since she still seems to have the hots for his ridiculous and crude behavior.

April is played by the absolutely amazing Katy Mixon who had me drooling all over myself all season and left me breathless in the last episode, that is of course until I got a piece of information from CineVegas, but we wont go there.

Jody Hill brings super crude humor to an entirely new level and its a place that I wish more directors/writers would take things. No one compares to this guy, and he doesn’t even have a comedy background! If you loved ‘Observe and Report’ or ‘Foot Fist Way’ then there is absolutely no reason why you haven’t seen this show. Do yourself a favor and buy this today, or else I cant be your friend anymore.

The special features offer up some outtakes, commentary tracks on 3 episodes, and a really awesome making of featurette.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Burn Notice’ Season 2

burnnoticeblurayreview

The Show:

Jeffrey Donovan is one of my favorite actors and a very underrated actor. When I first saw that he had a new show about spies I knew that it would instantly become a favorite. The show slipped my viewing and the first season came and went without me having watched any of the episodes. I quickly got caught up on DVD, and was stoked to find out we were getting Season 2 on Blu-Ray. I immediately popped it in and started watching it, unable to turn it off I finished the entire season in just under a week.

Season 2 picks up where the first season leaves off and you are immediately back in the chase to find out exactly who burned him. Bruce Campbell is back as Sam and Gabrielle Anwar is still tearing it up as sexy Fiona. Season 2 comes in at 16 episodes and I think that this season far better than the first. We don’t need as much back story since that was all set previously and we just get down to hashing out the plot.

What I love most about ‘Burn Notice’ is the fact that every episode carries 2 plot lines, the main plot to figure out who burned him, and the subplots of him working as a PI. The episodes are all smart and witty while maintaining a believability to the show, are rarely coming off as cheesy.

By far my favorite episode is ‘Trust Me’ which features a guest starring role by Patrick Favian, who you may also know as Professor Lasky from ‘Saved by the Bell: The College Years’. He plays Zeke, a nightclub owner who cons an unassuming club patron, Andy, out of $200,000 which he claims is being invested in another club, but this one is in Cuba. When the money is taken during an “FBI raid” the loan sharks then come after Andy to recover their money, plus the juice. Michael and Fiona decide that this con cant go unpunished so they go after Zeke by setting him up in a con of their own.

The Disc:

Since the show is set in Miami, watching it all in hi-def is absolutely brilliant. The shots of the Miami beaches and ocean literally jump off the screen and you almost feel like you could be there, if only Will Smith was with you. The audio comes through perfectly and it makes me never want to watch this show in SD again.

There are 3 commentary tracks for the special features, but unfortunately Jeffrey Donovan and Gabrielle Anwar aren’t on any of them. Outside of that the special features leave a lot to be desired, good thing the show makes up for it!
