SARAH PALIN: YOU BETCHA! Trailer and Poster

Nick Broomfield’s quest for the real Sarah Palin.

A journey across the icy snows of Alaska in mid winter, to meet the school friends, family, and Republican colleagues that in previous days gave their heart, and souls to the charismatic, charming, intoxicating ex hockey mum.

But it’s not all plain sailing. People are frightened to talk, Wasilla makes Twin Peaks look like a walk in the park. It’s a devout evangelical community – 76 churches with a population of only 6 thousand, and the Crystal meth capitol of Alaska.

Who are the flying monkeys, the enemies, the friends, and most importantly – are you with her or against her? Join the quest and for Christ’s sake buy some thermals!

About Broomfield:

Nick was originally influenced by the observational style of Fred Wiseman, and Robert Leacock and Pennebaker, before moving on largely by accident to the more idiosyncratic style for which he is better known. While making ‘Driving me Crazy’ in 1988 a film hopelessly out of control, Nick decided to place himself and the producer of the film in the story, as a way of making sense of the event.
This experiment led to a sense of greater freedom, from the confines of observational cinema, and led to a more investigative and experimental type of filmmaking – i.e. ‘The Leader, the Driver and the Drivers Wife’, ‘Aileen Wuornos’, ‘Kurt and Courtney’ and ‘Biggie and Tupac’.

Facebook To Premiere Horror Film On October 1st

FlickLaunch Showcases First Movie Distribution Platform Built on Facebook® for Viewing Independent Films

THE PERFECT HOUSE to Premiere on Facebook on October 1st for 750M+ Global Users on the film’s Fanpage/Online Movie Theater

FlickLaunch, the first movie distribution platform built on Facebook for independent filmmakers, will premiere the horror thriller THE PERFECT HOUSE on October 1, 2011 as a 7-day rental on the film’s Facebook fanpage – http://prodigypublicrelations.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=bb410deada8b6b607f204f67f&id=475517af19&e=acf6829c75.  The film isdirected by Kris Hulbert and Randy Kent and stars Monique Parent, Felissa Rose, Will Robertson, Andrea Vahl, Chris Raab, Jonathan Tiersten, and John Philbin.

This new platform enables independent filmmakers to market to and access a global audience through Facebook without the prohibitive costs of traditional and outdated distribution.  For a $5 “ticket price,” the movie will be viewed in its entirety and in full screen. Rather than go the traditional distribution route, the filmmakers for THE PERFECT HOUSE preferred to partner with FlickLaunch to engage moviegoers with a more scalable distribution model.

“We see a great opportunity to help these filmmakers get their films seen by offering this powerful transactional VOD distribution platform,” remarked Craig Tanner, Co-Founder and CEO of FlickLaunch.  “Currently, many independent films are not lucky enough to secure distribution from a major distributor and rarely have a meaningful marketing budget to reach a mass audience. FlickLaunch provides an immediate solution to filmmakers for both of these issues.”

“Partnering with FlickLaunch to be the first new released film on Facebook is something we are extremely excited and proud of,” says Kris Hulbert, writer, producer, and co-director of THE PERFECT HOUSE. “As soon as FlickLaunch announced their video platform during our post-production, I immediately saw we were in a special position and the value to release our film in this new distribution model was enormous.”

In THE PERFECT HOUSE, newlyweds Mike and Marisol (Will Robertson and Andrea Vahl), are given the tour of their dream home by a perky real estate agent (Monique Parent) and they soon find out their perfect house might just have a foreboding past. The ugly horrors of this house are revealed through three original tales of terror detailing the grim circumstances of the previous occupants. Done as an anthology, each short story in this homage to horror emulates the story and shooting styles of specific time periods in cinematic horror history.

Prior to the October 1st premiere, THE PERFECT HOUSE will take the film on a barnstorming 30-city tour.  This reality-style tour will feature free screenings, a must-see tour bus, and will showcase the cast and crew on an adventure they hope to share with horror fans around the country.  For specific dates and cities or to follow the daily tour blog when it starts on August 2nd, please visit: http://prodigypublicrelations.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=bb410deada8b6b607f204f67f&id=6e6b8b80a3&e=acf6829c75 or http://prodigypublicrelations.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=bb410deada8b6b607f204f67f&id=8f027790cd&e=acf6829c75.

With FlickLaunch, filmmakers can offer their movies on Facebook in minutes, not days or months as is the case for other Internet platforms.  The FlickLaunch player and application quickly uploads the filmmaker’s movie to the Facebook fanpage. Using the ‘LIKE’ button, the filmmaker can give away a predetermined amount of free views to “movie goers” to promote the movie or set the rental price to start making money right away. Once the predetermined number of ‘LIKES’ is exhausted, “moviegoers” will use Paypal (Facebook Credits available soon) to rent movies at a price of $1-$5 depending on the film, while engaging with their Facebook friends.

“The FlickLaunch player is the easiest interface to use by filmmakers to upload and stream their movies in a highly scalable, SaaS platform for an optimized viewing experience on Facebook,” commented Pinaki Saha, FlickLaunch tech advisor and board member.  “Users can watch in full screen, stop, pause, and resume within the 7-day rental window, all while posting comments and updates to their page.”

“In order for a film to be ensured success in this competitive environment, each actor, director, and producer must use their Facebook friends and Twitter followers to drive traffic to their movie” commented Erik Moore, Co-founder of FlickLaunch.  “It’s much easier when the movie theater and marketing arm reside on Facebook.”

Of the 3,812 movie submissions to the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, only 118 feature length films were selected.  A limited number of those official selections will secure any meaningful distribution.  The other 3,694 may never be seen by an audience.  With FlickLaunch, that story is about to change.

FlickLaunch just completed their extremely robust iPad app, giving the Independent Filmmaker access to 30M iPads. The company is currently working on apps for the Android and iPhone.  Soon to be released is FlickLaunch 2.0, their movie genome project based on the social graph.

About FlickLaunch:

FlickLaunch is a streaming platform for film distribution built on Facebook. FlickLaunch allows a filmmaker to market and distribute a film directly to their audience and receive up to 70% of the revenue. FlickLaunch will offer its secure platform for major studio distribution.

THERE WAS ONCE… Documentary Opens 9/23 in NY & LA

Gabor Kalman’s documentary feature THERE WAS ONCE… tells the inspiring story of Gyöngyi Mago, a Hungarian Catholic high school teacher striving to chart a new course of tolerance in her conflict-ridden hometown, Kalocsa, Hungary. While looking for a subject for her dissertation, she discovers a forgotten part of local history: the Jewish community that once thrived but is now non-existent in her city.

Engaging her students in her research, she teaches tolerance and battles prejudice in her classroom. Her quest is set against a backdrop of renewed racial tensions, growing intolerance, and the alarming rise of neo-Nazism in modern-day Hungary. To commemorate the 65th anniversary of liquidation of the local ghetto and deportation of the Jews to Auschwitz and other camps, she organizes an emotional memorial service, attended by survivors and their relatives, along with students, city officials, and the Archbishop. At the same time, a neo-Nazi protest takes place a few blocks away.

On May 5th of this year, the Simon Wiesenthal Center presented a Medal of Valor to Gyöngyi Mago. THERE WAS ONCE… is a portrait of this remarkable woman, and clearly demonstrates what one person can do to change attitudes, to fight intolerance, to educate, to champion the truth, and ultimately to triumph.

Director/producer Gabor Kalman, a Holocaust survivor from Kalocsa, is uniquely qualified to bring this story to the screen. Over the years, he has produced and directed numerous award-winning documentary films.

Opens Friday, September 23 for one week engagements in New York at the IFC Center and in Los Angeles at Laemmle’s Sunset 5.

Not Rated / 103 minutes / In English and Hungarian with English Subtitles
