“Semi-Pro” tops the chart, but is a Full-on Flop! It may not seem as such considering it is the “#1 Movie in the Country” right now, I know. However, Will Ferrell’s newest vehicle which cost $57 Million to make, took in the shockingly low three day total of a little over $15 Million. This R-rated venture was one of the final projects from New Line Cinema and seemed to be heavily effected by that R-rating. Ferrell’s hits in previous years “Blades of Glory” (2007) and “Talladega Nights: Ballad of Ricky Bobby” (2006), which scored $118 & $148 Million respectively, were both PG-13 flicks, and obviously did very well. It could also be a case of ressurecting virtually the same character one too many times.

“Semi-Pro” barely dethrones last weeks King, the Dennis Quaid Thriller “Vantage Point” which steps down to the second slot. “The Spiderwick Chronicles” also dropped a spot as Fox’s “Jumper” fell behind the Sony release “The Other Boleyn Girl”. In a personal surprise “Step Up 2: The Streets” is still doing well with a tally of nearly $6 Million this week and nearing the $50 million mark. “Fool’s Gold” by Warner Bros. with the pairing of Kate Hudson, and Matthew McConaughey falls two spots as well to #7. It seems as though winning an Oscar has revived the Coen brothers “No Country for Old Men”, as it has jumped four slots since last week. Christina Ricci, Reese Witherspoon team in “Penelope”, and Ryan Reynolds’ “Definately, Maybe” enjoys the #10 position atleast until next week. Honorable mention should go to “Juno” takes #11 in it’s 13th week of release, and “There Will Be Blood” holds #15 @ 10 weeks of release.

With Jason Statham in “The Bank Job”, and our newest Epic treat “10,000 B.C.” opening this weekend things will get interesting in the “Battle of the Box Office”!
