RKO will Resurrect Val Lewton
With what seems to be a cyclical trend of massive box-office profit off of low quality, low budget horror movies, RKO Pictures sees the proverbial goldmine in their vintage collection of Val Lewton productions from the 1940’s. Apparently, RKO is making plans to have eight of Lewton’s classics remade into modern scary movies.
Ted Hartley, CEO of RKO Pictures: “We’ve got other projects at RKO, but we needed to get going on this. The most successful ROI in the movie business comes from scary movies that get wide release and cost under $10 million. We’ve studied it extensively for our stockholders and investors, and we saw the opportunity to take the rich Val Lewton library of scary thrillers and create a unique company out of it.” — Variety
