Der Fliegende Holländer (The Flying Dutchman), Wagner’s early opera, explores the themes of damnation and redemption that continued to fascinate the librettist and composer throughout his career. In this tale of a sea captain forced to sail the seven seas for eternity until released by the faithful love of a good woman, Wagner created two unforgettable characters operating near the limits of human emotion. Tim Albery’s Olivier-nominated production for The Royal Opera, to be recorded live on stage early in 2015, delves deep into the psychology of Wagner’s cursed wandering Dutchman (Bryn Terfel) and his beloved Senta, detailing the monomania and uncompromising idealism that finally drives them apart. Michael Levine’s elemental single set is dominated by a rolling metal hull that represents the Dutchman’s phantom ship, the poverty of Senta’s home and the treacherous sea. Sung in German with English subtitles.

The inspirational biopic is on Digital HD now and on Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand March 24, 2015 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and Legendary Pictures. Directed by Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie, UNBROKEN chronicles the unbelievable true story about triumph over tribulation and the resilient power of the human spirit.

Louie’s unfaltering determination and ferocious will then carried him through monumental tribulations during his military service and he became a true American hero.

TITUS ANDRONICUS synopsis: Returning to Rome from a war against the Goths, the general Titus Andronicus (William Houston) brings with him the queen Tamora (Indira Varma) and her three sons as prisoners of war. Titus’ sacrifice of Tamora’s eldest son to appease the ghosts of his dead sons, and his decision to refuse to accept the title of emperor, initiates a terrible cycle of mutilation, rape and murder. And all the while, at the center of the nightmare, there moves the villainous, self-delighting Aaron (Obi Abili). Grotesquely violent and daringly experimental, Titus Andronicus was the smash hit of Shakespeare’s early career, and is written with a ghoulish energy he was never to repeat elsewhere. This production, recorded earlier in 2015, revisits Lucy Bailey’s spectacular Globe production of 2006 and has caused a stir throughout the U.K. media with staged violence so realistic that some audience members have fainted.
CAST: Obi Abili, Steffan Donnelly, Dyfan Dwyfor, Samuel Edward-Cook, Ian Gelder, Paul Ham, Ethan Hammer, William Houston, Nicholas Karimi, Jake Mann, Brian Martin, Matthew Needham, Bryonie Pritchard, David Shaw-Parker, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Indira Varma, Jaime Wilkes, Jude Willoughby

The story of CINDERELLA follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new Stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.
Soon, she is forced to become their servant, disrespected, covered in ashes and spitefully renamed Cinderella. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her, and she continues to remain positive, determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.”
When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden) and not merely Kit, an apprentice at the palace, she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the King (Derek Jacobi) summons all maidens in the kingdom to attend a royal ball at the palace, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her Stepmother forbids her to attend and callously destroys her dress.
Meanwhile, the calculating Grand Duke (Stellan Skarsgård) devises a plan to thwart the Prince’s hopes of reuniting with Ella and enlists the support of the devious Stepmother. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.
