MOVIE NEWS: Quarantine Cat Film Fest Begins NEXT Friday

By  |

Cats will help save independent movie theaters this spring in the first-ever (and hopefully last-ever) QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST, which will be released Friday, June 19, to some 100 “virtual cinemas” in the U.S. and Canada – online versions of local, independent art houses.

The all-new, feature-length film can be viewed at home, with ticket sales bringing much-needed revenue to individual cinemas. Cat-loving moviegoers can do more than simply watch this ode to feline fandom: They can help make it. Check out this purr-eview:

As a “virtual cinema” initiative, the QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST is designed to support independent cinemas nationwide. That means movie lovers will buy their tickets for the QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST online, but watch the feature-length feline festivities at home. They can watch on their device or computer, or choose to “mirror” or “cast” it onto their TVs. A ticket is valid for three days, during which time they can watch as often as they want. About half of the cost of each ticket sold goes directly to local independent theaters.

The QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST was created by Brian Mendelssohn, owner of Pittsburgh-based Row House Cinema. A full list of participating cinemas is available at the Row House Online website, along with links to each theater website.
“Even as some movie theaters across the country begin to reopen, locally owned, independent cinemas are still struggling from being shut down,” Mendelssohn explained. “This is a fun, joyous way to celebrate the importance of independent movie theaters and showcase the potential for virtual cinema, which we think will be an important part of independent film distribution moving forward. Plus, there are lots and lots and lots of cats. That’s what it’s really all about.”
The QUARANTINE CAT FILM FEST makes its “virtual cinema” debut on June 19, and it’s available for everyone, everywhere. For details, visit the website of a participating theater or https://rowhouse.online/cats/.
