German Shocker SNOWFLAKE Now Available on Blu-ray and DVD

By  |

The shocking German thrill SNOWFLAKE is now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Artsploitation Films. SNOWFLAKE stars Reza Brojerdi, Erkan Acar, and Alexander Wolf and is directed by Adolfo J. Kolmerer and William James.

Take a dash of Tarantino, a splash of Coen brothers, a metric ton of pretzel-logic self-awareness, and a fast-paced series of humorously violent misadventures, and you’re halfway to grasping the magnificent German madness of this bizarre import. Hunting down the murderer of their families in a near-future Berlin, a gang of lowlife characters all want revenge on each other, but along the way they must contend with a myriad of wicked fairytale types—assassins, madmen, a blood-covered angel, and an electric-powered superhero—all apparently come to life through a screenplay written by a demented but clueless dentist. Must be experienced to be believed, and guaranteed to twist your mind.

Check out some of the reviews of SNOWFLAKE:

SNOWFLAKE is a dizzying, hilarious film that combines post-Tarantino action/crime drama and Charlie Kaufman’s metafictional surrealism with exhilarating results…hugely entertaining, and instantly marks debut feature director Adolfo J. Kolmerer and his collaborators in front of and behind the camera as talents to keep an eye on.” – Jason Coffman, Dailygrindhouse

“A plot that feels like Charlie Kaufman writing a movie for Guy Ritchie…Is it entertaining as hell? Absolutely.” – Matt Wedge, Dailygrindhouse

“Snowflake is an ass-kicking, blood-spurting, whip-cracking, adrenaline pumping ride through the dirty, decrepit streets and naked hinterlands of a broken German government on the cusp of new regime…Snowflake is a freewheeling roller coaster of retribution, pitch black humor and riotous bloodshed. Fans of Pulp FictionSmokin’ Aces and Boondock Saints should not let this one pass them by. I never would have known that the movie was filmed on a nano-budget over several years worth of time. The resulting project is as good – or better – than many of the things coming out of big budget Hollywood. The non-linear, character packed storyline dovetails perfectly in the end, creating a film Arend Remmers, DDS would be proud of.” – Tracy Allen, Pophorror

“Clever storytelling and characters which could be taken from early Quentin Tarantino flicks, such as 1992’s Reservoir Dogs. There is not a dull moment during the whole 120 minute run time…Snowflake is definitely a film you want to discuss with your friends after you have seen it. Being an extraordinary genre mix, CrypticRock gives Snowflake 4.5 out of 5 stars.” – CrypticRock

Snowflake is an ambitious German film, a labor of love built utilizing a miss-mash of genres presented in a non linear fashion. Snowflake is intelligent and entertainingstorytelling and I’m sure people are going to continue to lap up this style of film-making. ” – AdamtheMovieGod

A dizzying, hilarious film that combines post-Tarantino action/crime drama and Charlie Kaufman’s metafictional surrealism with exhilarating results. Screenwriter Arend Remmers and an excellent cast bring the population of the film’s criminal underworld to vivid life, and its wild narrative feels genuinely unpredictable. SNOWFLAKE makes a convincing case that there are still ways to bring something new to the kind of crime drama that followed in the wake of PULP FICTION and died off when it became apparent that most filmmakers were clueless as to what made Tarantino’s breakthrough so wildly entertaining. SNOWFLAKE is hugely entertaining, and instantly marks debut feature director Adolfo J. Kolmerer and his collaborators in front of and behind the camera as talents to keep an eye on.” – DailyGrindhouse

Snowflake is a film of the “What the f**k”-category: It’s freely floating between genres (including crime, horror, science fiction, superhero, fantasy, thriller, comedy) using as many pulp mainstays as it can along the way to twist them to mostly ironic results, it pushes absurdity (within its narrative context) to new heights without ever really losing the plot, it’s told in a violently non-narrative way that somehow makes perfect sense nevertheless, and it doesn’t hold back when it comes to violence, yet doesn’t rely too heavily on it. And for most of the time it manages to stay away from cheap jokes or too blunt social commentary. The outcome is a very fine stew that might not be for everyone, but the cult movie crowd will be sure to love it.” – SearchMyTrash

If you take two parts Pulp Fiction, one part Reservoir Dogs, a cup of John Dies at the End, and a dash of Dogma, bake it all in a dystopian future oven at 420 degrees for two hours the finished product would be Snowflake. Needless to say, it was one hell of a ride. The writing in this film is incredible. The plot is layered and meta as fuck…The performances in this movie really bring the writing to life. The cast is perfectly balanced and everyone brought their A-game to the table. This might just be the most interesting and rewatchable movie you see this season.” – Yeti, TennesseeHorror

“The plot is surreal but not in a way that feels contrived, the overall story is cleverly written…fresh and original. The directing was forever fantastic, the cinematography always on point, and the soundtrack was sublime, it just fitted the oddball tone so well. This really is a film I would recommend seeing, even if it isn’t horror. – TheRottingZombie

“In a future where vigilantes, would-be superheroes and Messiah aspirants sow blood-soaked disarray in the streets, a pair of thugs seek revenge for the murder of their families and a few clues to their own future, which they obtain by hunting down the screenwriter of the movie itself. Broadly comic and absurdly violent German action-fantasy…the performers’ enthusiasm and an aggressive visual palette should win over cult fans.” – The Los Angeles Beat
