WAMG At The OUIJA Scavenger Hunt

Last week WAMG took to Hollywood Blvd. to scout out some of the most haunted locations for clues in celebration of the release of OUIJA on Blu-Ray and DVD (February 3rd). Watson Adventures devised a fun-filled list of places and clues for press members, and sent us out in four different groups to unravel the mysteries of one of the most haunted areas in California.

After the scavenger hunt, guests were treated to an open bar at the historical Boardner’s by La Belle. The historic bar is rumored to be the last place Elizabeth Short was seen alive. She would later be referred to as the Black Dahlia.

Guests enjoyed OUIJA themed cocktails, and learned a little bit about Ouija boards from Robert L. Murch, who is the chairman of the board at the Talking Board Historical Society. I asked him about whether there was a difference between the Parker Bros. boards that most of us are familiar with and hand-crafted homemade boards. He responded :

“The difference is that in 1886, the talking board, four years before Ouija’s name, pops up in Ohio. So, people start making these at home, and they are completely made to talk to the other world. They’re meant to talk to spirits. Four years later, the board is named in Baltimore. It’s the board Ouija that becomes bought by Parker Bros. and that’s been bought by Hasbro. So, the difference really is that one’s a remade one, and one’s homemade. Some people believe that the homemade ones… you’re putting your energy into it. You’re thinking about it. You’re actively doing it. That makes the board better. Other people believe that you don’t want to play with a board that someone else has used because their energy is in it, and you want a clean one so buying a new board would be better for you. It’s really how psychic you feel you are and if you feel a vibe.”

Unfortunately when trying to get the board to spell out a name hidden inside an envelope, the board failed us. Maybe next time!
