Further on down the cinematic road in 2015 are two big films.

Oscar-winner Ron Howard’s (RUSH) action adventure HEART OF THE SEA based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s best-selling book about the dramatic true journey of the Essex.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. HEART OF THE SEA reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

HEART OF THE SEA stars Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, Tom Holland, and Brendan Gleeson and is written by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) and Charles Leavitt (“Blood Diamond”).

The film is set for a March 13, 2015 release.

Opening on July 17, 2015 is the untitled BATMAN VS SUPERMAN movie. From director Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill (Superman) and Ben Affleck (Batman) will star.

Snyder successfully re-imagined the origin of Clark Kent/Superman in MAN OF STEEL and the director will now create an original vision of Batman and his world for the film that brings the two DC Comics icons together. The film will also reunite MAN OF STEEL stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

MAN OF STEEL

In early December the studio announced that Wonder Woman/Diana Prince will make her big screen debut in the film. Actress Gal Gadot has been cast.

Snyder stated, “Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

The actress tweeted out the photo after the announcement was made.
