Oscar-Nominee Nora Ephron Dies At 71

“Nora Ephron has quietly been one of the most significant women in film history,” said movie scholar and historian Jeanine D. Basinger. Today the 3-time Oscar Nominee sadly passed away at the age of 71. The writer of HEARTBURN, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, and director of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, MICHAEL, YOU’VE GOT MAIL, and JULIE & JULIA, Ephron’s death was “confirmed by her friend Richard Cohen, a Washington Post columnist. She died of complications from the blood disorder myelodysplasia, with which she was diagnosed six years ago.”

At the time of her death Ephron had two film projects in development, a biopic on singer Peggy Lee that she had penned and was to direct, with Reese Witherspoon and Marc Platt to produce at Fox 2000, and “Lost in Austen,” which she had adapted and signed on to direct in April for Mammoth Screen and Sony.
