‘Fermat’s Room’ picked up by IFC

By  |

For those of you who enjoyed Cube (1997) and Darren Aronofsky’s Pi (1998), Fermat’s Room (La Habitacion de Fermat) may appeal to your curiosity. IFC Entertainment just picked up the North American rights to this intellectual thriller from Spain. Directed by the first-timer duo of Luis Piedrahita and Rodrigo Sopena, this film is about four mathematicians who end up trapped together in a room with walls that are literally closing in on them. The four prisoners must overcome their fears and differences with each other and use their intellects to solve the riddle which serves as their only hope of survival. The film is in Spanish, so it is likely to get a limited release in the US, or may even just get airtime on the IFC Channel, as it already has a spot on this summer’s IFC Festival Direct VOD lineup.
