’28th Amendment’, one of the strong contendors to be Tom Cruise’s next starring role, may have found its director.   According to Variety, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is in talks to helm the film.   The German director’s last film, 2006’s ‘The Lives of Others’, won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

’28th Amendment’ revolves around a U.S. president who discovers the existence of a secret cabal that runs the government and wants him dead.   Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the duo behind ‘Transformers’ and ‘Star Trek’, are currently rewriting the screenplay.

‘The Lives of Others’ is one of those films that I regret to say I still have not watched, but I remember hearing nothing but good things about it.   If this news becomes truth and Donnersmarck gets the director’s position, ’28th Amendment’ could become a pretty intense drama.
