What a Drag! PARIS IS BURNING Screening at Webster University This Weekend

By  |

” I always had hopes of being a big star. But as you get older, you aim a little lower. “

PARIS IS BURNING (1990) screens at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood) Friday Auhust 16th, Saturday August 17th. It will screen there again September 6-8th. The screenings begin at 7:30 each evening. Facebook invite can be found HERE.

A movie that the world is still catching up to, Jennie Livingston’s Paris is Burning looks at drag ball culture in Harlem in the 1980s. Calling to mind other great counterculture docs of the era, such as Penelope Spheeris’s The Decline of Western CivilizationParis brings you into a world of voguing, rival houses, throwing shade, and all kinds of other cultural touchstones that have been slowly creeping into mainstream consciousness in the intervening 30 years. Indispensable.

Admission is:

$7 for the general public
$6 for seniors, Webster alumni and students from other schools
$5 for Webster University staff and faculty

Free for Webster students with proper I.D.
