Another Oscar show is in the books. Clocking in at 3 hours and 17 minutes the 91st Academy Awards was one of the shortest telecasts in recent memory. The Dolby Theatre was filled with A-list actors, filmmakers and Academy members – all movie fans. Even the pressroom was filled with movie geeks… as the winners were announced live everyone applauded, and then again as they greeted members of the press with their golden statues.

With so many great acceptance speeches and montages, here’s our take on the best Oscar Moments from the 91st Academy Awards.

1. Queen and Adam Lambert opening, showing that classic rock brings EVERYONE to their feet! Plus Mike Myers and Dana Carvey introduced Oscars 2019 nominee for Best Picture, Bohemian Rhapsody.

2. No host but no one noticed after 3 SNL alums followed the opening number. No host? No problem. Keep it that way.

3. Regina King brought her Mom and made a tearful acceptance speech.

4. Jason Momoa and Helen Mirren, both badasses…should be in a film together. That much swag in one place is BOUND to be lethal. maybe make them the Lethal weapon reboot.

5. Melissa McCarthy parody of The Favourite with Brian Tyree Henry was pure bonkers, but a great funny, memorable moment. Rabbit? What rabbit?

6. Ruth Carter wins for Costume Design for Black Panther. The raw emotions are why people watch the Oscars. Marvel Studios first Oscar wins by a woman of color has comic books on the cutting edge. Her designs were amazing, original, colorful, and salient. This was a win that nobody can ever dispute.

7. And Hannah Beachler won Best Set Decoration. “I did my best…and my best was good enough”. The film also took home Best Score.

8. Keegan Michael Key intro for Best Song…drops in with an umbrella from Mary Poppins Returns, sung by Bette Midler – who looked fabulous!

9. Bohemian Rhapsody wins both Sound categories…even over favorite A Quiet Place. And Best Editing, and Rami Malek won Best Actor for his role as Freddy Mercury. Malek has a big future ahead of him. His performance is so intense, and he seemed to become the legend. It was done with heart, and sensitivity, intensity and energy, his portrayal truly earned the award. Oh, and he tripped.

10. Roma wins Foreign Language, Cinematography, Best Director, to the surprise of nobody.

11. Mahershala Ali wins 2nd Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and man, he brought his “A game” to the role.

12. Best animated film… Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, Marvels first Best Picture Oscar, you can bet they’ll bet getting a little more experimental, and this is the first time a superhero has won the best animated film.

13. John Mulaney’s and Awkwafina’s hilarious intro for Best Animated Short… He’d make a Terrific host. Mulaney did the voice for “Spider Ham” in “Spider-Man, Into The Spider-verse”, so he was a great pick.

14. Standing ‘O” for performance by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for A Star is Born.

15. Spike Lee garners his first Oscar with this win for Best Adapted Screenplay for Blackkklansman. After jumping into Samuel L. Jackson’s arms, Lee, who has long deserved and Oscar, brought his thoughtful worldview with him to the acceptance stage. ” If we all connect with our ancestors, we will have love, wisdom, we will regain our humanity. It will be a powerful moment. The 2020 presidential election is around the corner. Let’s all mobilize. Let’s all be on the right side of history. Make the moral choice between love versus hate. Let’s do the right thing! You know I had to get that in there!”

16. In Memorium sequence with John Williams score from Superman the Movie (1978). Class Act all the way.

17. Barbra Streisand introduces Blackkklansman.

18. The stage design for the show by David Korins was pretty cool.

19. Olivia Colman wins the Best Actress Oscar for THE FAVOURITE and delivers the funniest acceptance speech of the evening.

20. Glenn Close loses once again and goes 0-7.

21. Green Book wins Best Picture. Truthfully, I wanted this movie or Bohemian Rhapsody (pics for which I’ve taken a lot of flack), but they both were true stories, and so well done.
