Wehrenberg Theatres will host its 31st annual “Cans Film Festival” to benefit The Salvation Army’s “Tree of Lights” campaign. The event will take place Saturday, December 3rd. Guests who bring five canned food items to a Wehrenberg Theatre will receive free admission to any movie that day starting before 5 PM. Bring three canned food items to the St. Clair Cine in Fairview Heights for a free admission for a film starting before 5 PM.

Guests who bring an additional ten cans or more per person (15 or more total per person or 13 or more at St. Clair 10 Cine) will also receive a free movie pass for a future visit. In addition, Wehrenberg Theatres will again award a year-long movie pass to the single largest donation received in the theatre circuit.

Cans Film Festival, the area’s most popular food drive, stocks the local food pantries every year during the holiday season when those less fortunate need it most. With the help of the sponsors UPS, iHeartMedia radio and, of course, the volunteers of the Salvation Army, the 2015 campaign stockpiled over 220,000 canned food items during the one-day event. This event provides meals not only at the holidays but well into the summer months. Organizers hope to set a new record this year. The record is 335,000 cans set in 2011.

Hollywood will stock our theatres with excellent films for Cans Film Festival. Family hits such as Disney’s Moana and the lovable gang from Trolls will delight children! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them brings audiences back to the world of Harry Potter, and will certainly be a popular draw. Marvel’s latest hero, Doctor Strange will tempt many movie-goers, too. Billy Bob Thorton’s return in Bad Santa 2 is also available. Critically-acclaimed films such as The Edge of Seventeen and Arrival offer even more variety. Please note scheduled films vary by theatre. Guests can visit www.wehrenberg.com for full schedules.

In addition to these current films, Wehrenberg Theatres will bring back recent family favorites! With their five-can-per-person donation, guests can enjoy Pete’s Dragon, The Secret Life of Pets or Storks on the big screen again! These three movies will play Saturday, Dec. 3 only at select theatres. (Please note not all theatres will play any or all of these. Visit our website for schedules.)
