“Klaatu barada nikto!”

First up is: THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951)

The sci-fi parable THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL starring Oscar winner Patricia Neal tells the story of Klaatu, a visitor from another world (played by Michael Rennie) with his allmighty robot Gor who land unexpectedly at the White House to stop people from expanding the human violence beyond frontiers of the planet Earth. When he sees that he cannot get attention of the whole world, he decides to perform his skills and neutralizes all electricity all over the planet. Though THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL was released in 1951, it’s just as relevant and thought-provoking today, a superior sci-fi thriller with awesome special effects, a tingling atmospheric music score by Bernard Herrmann, classy black-and-white photography by Leo Tover, and Robert Wise’s skillful direction.

Next is: RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP (1982)

Richard Pryor, one of America’s greatest stand-up comedians, expertly conveys the inner pain and personal demons of his tumultuous life with RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP, a heartbreakingly funny stand-up take on his drug abuse, sexual relationships, racism, spirituality abroad in Africa, getting drunk, recalling early gigs with Mob-run clubs and the occasional improve. Lucky to be alive after his near-fatal freebasing burning, Pryor even makes dying sound funny. Pryor was a genius in every sense of the word and RICHARD PRYOR LIVE ON THE SUNSET STRIP still stands as a remarkable comedic document
