Get Stupid With The MASTERMINDS In New Trailer

Breaking into theaters nationwide this summer, watch the brand new trailer for Relativity Studios MASTERMINDS.

In this action comedy inspired by true events, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite; Nacho Libre), David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) discovers the true meaning of adventure far beyond his wildest dreams.

He is an uncomplicated man stuck in a monotonous life. Day in and day out he drives an armored vehicle, transporting millions of other people’s money with no escape in sight. The only glimmer of excitement is his flirtatious work crush Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig) who soon lures him into the scheme of a lifetime.

Along with a group of half-brained criminals led by Steve Chambers (Owen Wilson) and an absurdly faulted heist plan, David manages the impossible and makes off with $17 million in cash…only problem is he foolishly hands the money over to this wild group of double crossers and has been set up to take the fall. With the bandits blowing the millions on lavish and ridiculous luxuries, they leave behind a glaring trail of evidence. Now on the lam and in over his head, David must dodge the authorities, evade a hilarious hit man, Mike McKinney (Jason Sudeikis), and try to turn the tables on the ones he trusted most.

Here are some highlights from Kristen Wiig’s conversation with Yahoo Movies, after the trailer came online.

On what drew her to Masterminds: “Many things. One being the script, and Jared Hess who I’ve been a fan of forever — Napoleon Dynamite. He’s just one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. The cast — Zach and Owen. Yeah, I was on board from the beginning.”

On a fun day on set: “There’s a scene where we’re in a diner, when I’m first telling David [Galifianakis] the plan, and Steve [Owen Wilson] is sitting in the booth behind me. There was a lot of funny improvising that Zach was doing with roses and talking about what comes out if you cut your… boob [laughs]. He was making me laugh so hard. Gosh, it’s so hard to pick one. We all just had the best time working on this movie in Asheville, North Carolina. It was honestly one of the most fun times I’ve ever had.”

On her favorite ‘90s fashions: “Oh god. The ’90s are the best! So many things I tried on I wanted to keep. They’re supposed to be, kind of, joke outfits, and I was, like, “I actually kind of like this high-waisted acid wash skirt. I might want to borrow this [laughs].” I like everything from the ’90s except I don’t love a Ked on me. I love Keds but I don’t think I can rock those.”
