Gorgeous US Poster for Mike Leigh’s MR. TURNER Is Here

Sony Pictures Classics has created a masterpiece with the striking new US poster for Mike Leigh’s MR. TURNER.

Timothy Spall stars as the artist and won Best Actor in May at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival 2014.

In her Cannes review, Sasha Stone (Awards Daily) wrote, “Mr. Turner is both a love letter to Britain’s greatest painter and a magnum opus for Leigh.”

MR. TURNER explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).

Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies.

Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.

Of the character, director Mike Leigh said Turner was, “a giant among artists single-minded and uncompromising, extraordinarily prolific, revolutionary in his approach, consummate at his craft, clairvoyant in his vision.”

Also featuring Dorothy Atkinson, Marion Bailey and Lesley Manville, the film opens in NY & LA December 19th and will expand nationally in the following weeks.
