Movies don’t usually get as creepy or thrilling as the top-notch, Oscar-winning SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, which will be screened next Tuesday, October 22nd, as part of Movies for Foodies, a regular film series put on by the chefs at Tenacious Eats. This is a one-of-a-kind event where food is prepared and plated in front of you, in the form of a 5-course gourmet meal, while you watch a film on the big screen. Tenacious Eats only works with locally produced food procured by them and hard-to-find ingredients imported from places that specialize in them. For each new film, the folks at Tenacious Eats write a new menu specific to that movie’s story. Sometimes the menu is literal and sometimes it is inspired interpretation. In all cases, each dining experience is different because each film is different. By integrating film and food, Movies for Foodies creates an original experience, a feast for the senses, an event that brings food and film, chefs and diners together. The location is Meyer’s Grove at 4510 Manchester in St. Louis. The doors open at 6pm and, after an hour or so of Super-8 Movie Madness and some pre-show music by the hot gypsy jazz duo COCO RICO,  SILENCE OF THE LAMBS will begin at 8pm.

“A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.” – That line has always made me hungry for a Liver Pate, Blackberry and Chianti compote, and Fava bean ragu. And that’s exactly what will be served for the first course next Tuesday night!

In SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, the young and feminine Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster), who is training to be an F.B.I. agent, must find the whereabouts of a serial killer named Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine). Buffalo Bill!? This calls for Bison Shepard Pie with Amish Blue whippers.

The only way possible is interviewing a captured serial killer named Dr. Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter (Anthony Hopkins).

In SILENCE OF THE LAMBS,  Buffalo Bill tells his captives “It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it get’s the hose again” in order to keep their skin soft and easy to remove from their bodies. Yummy! If that line makes you hungry for Smoked Chicken Ballantine stuffed with Chicken and Apple Sausage, Irish Cheddar Béchamel, and Chicken and Rosemary Crackins, you’re in luck! That’s exactly what will be served

After an intermission, it will be back to the movie: “Brave Clarice. You will let me know when those lambs stop screaming, won’t you?” This is where SILENCE OF THE LAMBS starts getting really scary and I’m sure you’ll be up for a Cornmeal Crusted Lambchop, English Pea and Mint Salad, and Red Windsor Twice Baked Potato with Demi Glace

And when poor Catherine is at the bottom of the well and Bill has been starving her so that her skin will loosen and make it easier to skin her, she utters the immortal line “Thanks for the scraps, asshole!”, which is a perfect excuse to serve PB&J Bread Pudding, Peanut Brittle, and raspberry Fruit Leather.

The screening of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS will feature not only this five course meal, but a five cocktails as well, and will be preceded by an hour of Super-8 Movie Madness and Pre-show music by hot gypsy jazz duo, COCO RICO!!! All tickets are $55.00 per person. Reservations highly recommended. Seating is limited. Surrounded by sounds, smells, sight and passion, a Movie for Foodies dinner is the immediate gratification of the senses.
