New Poster For STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS And Gorn Captain to Invade Red Carpet at MTV Movie Awards

Happy Friday Trek fans! Here’s your first glance at the new STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS poster. (via Apple iTunes). Things aren’t looking good for the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701 – Starfleet abbreviation for ‘Naval Construction Contract’). According to the designer of the original ship, art director Matt Jefferies, in The Making of Star Trek, the “USS” means “United Space Ship” and that “the Enterprise is a member of the Starship Class”.

Just as with STAR TREK: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK and the demise of that Enterprise, it’s never a welcomed sight to see the ship’s hull in flames.

It was unsettling in June of 1984 to watch Capt. Kirk (William Shatner) order the computer to begin the sixty-second auto-destruct sequence. To see the great saucer disintegrate in that 3rd movie and to watch it all over again in the new previews for J.J. Abrams film is just as sad – both have bothersome results.

The Gorn, Star Trek’s legendary lizard-like villain and the enemy to Kirk, Spock, and the U.S.S. Enterprise, will be making an appearance on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards – days before the highly anticipated release of STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME.

STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME, the most authentic and action-packed Star Trek video game ever created, will be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on April 23, 2013.

In Summer 2013, director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS.

In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is written by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof and directed by J.J. Abrams .  Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci.  Jeffrey Chernovand Skydance Productions’ David Ellison , Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake are the executive producers.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS opens in the U.S. in select theaters in IMAX 3D on May 15th and theaters everywhere May 17, 2013.
