Phase 4 Films Acquires North American Rights To Coley Sohn’s SASSY PANTS – Stars Haley Joel Osment, Anna Gunn

Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, announced today that the company has acquired North American rights to writer-director Coley Sohn’s coming of age comedy/drama SASSY PANTS. The film stars Haley Joel Osment (The SIXTH SENSE), Ashley Rickards (MTV’s “AWKWARD”) and Emmy-nominated Anna Gunn (AMC’s “BREAKING BAD”). Adam Wilkins and Pavlina Hatoupis produced the project. SASSY PANTS made its world premiere earlier this year at the 2012 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Phase 4 will release the film day-and-date in theatres and on VOD this fall.

SASSY PANTS is an edgy coming of age comedy about teenager, Bethany, desperate to get out from under her overprotective mother, runs off to live with her dad, and forms a bond with his much-younger boyfriend.

“Teaming with Phase 4 was the perfect fit for us,” said Sohn. “Sassy Pants definitely vibes indie at times. It’s dark, it’s funny, and there’s a lot of heart in there too.  Festival audiences have responded really favorably to the movie, and we’re very excited to have Phase 4 translate that to the general public.”

The deal for SASSY PANTS was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe with Traction Media on behalf of the filmmakers.

Phase 4 Films’ previous releases include the provocatively sexy road movie HICK, starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Blake Lively, and Eddie Redmayne; 2011 Sundance award-winner ANOTHER HAPPY DAY, Sam Levinson’s dark comedy about a dysfunctional family, starring Ellen Barkin, Demi Moore, and Ezra Miller; and the Canadian tour of Kevin Smith’s RED STATE, starring Michael Parks, Melissa Leo and John Goodman. Upcoming releases for the company include Rebecca Thomas’ 2012 SXSW favorite ELECTRICK CHILDREN starring Julia Garner, Rory Culkin, and Liam Aiken; Nate Meyer’s SEE GIRL RUN starring Robin Tunney and Adam Scott; Carrie Preston’s Sundance 2012 hit comedy THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID starring Anne Heche, Marcia DeBonis, and Alia Shawkat; and Andrew Edison’s high school comedy BINDLESTIFFS, which will be released in partnership with Kevin Smith under the SModcast Pictures Presents banner.
