Image Entertainment Joins Forces With 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks For Spike Lee’s RED HOOK SUMMER

By  |

Image Entertainment has announced that it has joined forces with 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks to distribute Spike Lee’s coming-of-age film, RED HOOK SUMMER. The agreement covers all North American rights, besides theatrical, including VOD, digital, Blu-ray™/DVD and broadcast and will be released under Image’s One Village label. With a slated theatrical release of August 10th through Variance Films, Image Entertainment anticipates a Q4 home entertainment release.“Spike Lee is hands down one of the greatest working filmmakers we have today. RED HOOK SUMMER personifies the type of films we release on our One Village label and I am personally honored that Spike has chosen Image to distribute it”

“I’m very happy with my new friends and partners at Image Entertainment,” said Spike Lee. “They are helping me bring RED HOOK SUMMER to the World.”

“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with Spike Lee and his team,” stated Bill Bromiley, Chief Acquisitions Officer for Image Entertainment. “He’s the quintessential independent filmmaker and we look forward to collaborating with him on distributing the film through the various platforms available to us.”

“Spike Lee is hands down one of the greatest working filmmakers we have today. RED HOOK SUMMER personifies the type of films we release on our One Village label and I am personally honored that Spike has chosen Image to distribute it,” commented Brett Dismuke, Sr. Vice President of Acquisitions at Image Entertainment. “RED HOOK SUMMER will be our tent pole film of 2012 and we know audiences will love the film as much as we do.”

The latest in Spike Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn (which also include She’s Gotta Have It, Do The Right Thing, Crooklyn, Clockers, and He Got Game), RED HOOK SUMMER tells the story of Flik Royale, a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse, in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster–until he meets Chazz Morningstar, a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through the love of his new found friend and his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.

The deal was brokered by CAA and Artie Indursky and Robert Strent of Grubman Indursky Shire & Meiselas, PC on behalf of Lee and 40 Acres and a Mule with Bill Bromiley, Brett Dismuke and Michael Bayer of Image Entertainment.
