VINCENTENNIAL: Vincent Price Film Festival Begins this Thursday

The Vincentennial Vincent Price Film Festival starts this Thursday, May 19^th . This is a great opportunity for movie fans to see these wonderful Vincent Price films on the big screen. Most of the films are free, but the ones at the Hi-Pointe will be ticketed.

Here’s the complete lineup:

Thursday May 19:
7:30pm- THE FLY (1958) to be presented at MISSOURI HISTORY MUSEUM’S
MacDERMOTT GRAND HALL. With activities, a cash bar, and a special bonus at the door for Vincent Price look-a-likes. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for an 8:30 p.m. screening of THE FLY Admission is free.

The Vincentennial Vincent Price Film Festival then moves to the The Hi-Pointe Theater for the next three days.

Friday May 20:
7:00pm – THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964) will be presented in a stunning 35mm print to be preceded by Tim Burton’s 6-minute stop-motion animation short VINCENT. With an introduction and post-film discussion by Richard Squires, creator of the Web site the Vincent Price Exhibit.

9:30pm – The William Castle classic THE TINGLER (1959) presented with the gimmicks ‘Emergo’ and ‘Percepto’ With introductions and post-film discussions by Film Forum’s Bruce Goldstein who is helping recreate these gimmicks.

Saturday May 21:
Noon – Encore screening of THE TINGLER in ‘Percepto’. With an introduction and post-film discussion by Film Forum’s Bruce Goldstein.

2:30pm – THEATRE OF BLOOD (1972) will be presented in a 35mm print. With an introduction and post-film discussion by Richard Squires, creator of the Web site the Vincent Price Exhibit.

5:00pm - THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1962) With a pre-film performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven” by John Contini as Vincent Price, and an introduction and post-film discussion by Jonathan Malcolm Lampley, author of “Women in the Horror Films of Vincent Price.”

8:00pm – The first of our two evenings with Roger Corman. TOMB OF LIGEIA (1965) will be screened in 35mm. With an introduction by Roger Corman and a post-film interview with the director about his collaborations with Price, conducted by Tim Lucas, editor of Video Watchdog.

Sunday May 22:
12:30pm – A double feature of THE RAVEN (1963) and THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES (1971) this will be held at LEE AUDITORIUM At the Missouri History Museum.

5:00pm – (back at the Hi-Pointe) HOUSE OF USHER (1961) With an introduction and post-film discussion by Jonathan Malcolm Lampley, author of “Women in the Horror Films of Vincent Price.”

7:30pm (at the Hi-Pointe) The second of our two evenings with Roger Corman. MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH (1964) will be screened in 35mm. With an introduction by Roger Corman; a clip reel of career highlights; a Lifetime Achievement Award presentation; and a post-film interview with the director about his storied career, conducted by Tim Lucas, editor of Video Watchdog.

Starting Monday May 23, The Vincentennial Vincent Price Film Festival moves to Brown Hall on the campus of Washington University. All films at Brown Hall are free.

Monday May 23:
7:00pm – Double feature of LAURA (1944) and DRAGONWYCK (1948) With introductions and a post-film discussion of LAURA by Washington U. film & media professor Gaylyn Studlar, David May Distinguished Professor in the Humanities and director of the Film & Media Studies program.

Tuesday May 24:
7:00pm – Double feature of CHAMPAGNE FOR CEASAR (1950 – presented in 35mm) and BARON OF ARIZONA (1950) With introductions and a post-film discussion of CHAMPAGNE FOR CEASAR by Washington U. film & media lecturer Hunter Vaughan.

Wednesday May 25:
7:00pm – THE WHALES OF AUGUST (1987) followed by VINCENT PRICE, THE SINISTER IMAGE, a 62-minute interview by journalist David Del Valle. With an introduction by David Del Valle and an on-stage post-film interview with Victoria Price, author of “Vincent Price, a Daughter’s Biography”

Thursday May 26:
7:00pm – WITCHFINDER GENERAL (1968). This is the British cut of the film better known in the U.S. as THE CONQUEROR WORM and will be presented in a 35mm print. With an introduction and a post-film discussion by St. Louis Post Dispatch Film Critic Joe Williams

10:00pm – Super-8 Vincent Price Movie Madness at The Way Out Club (2525 Jefferson Avenue in South St. Louis). This is a 100 minute show comprised of 5 Vincent Price movies condensed to 9 minutes each (CONQUEROR WORM, WAR-GODS OF THE DEEP, THE RAVEN, PIT AND THE PENDULUM, and MASTER OF THE WORLD), a 17-minute cut of THE MAD MAGICIAN in 3-D (we’ve got plenty of 3D glasses), 7 trailers from Vincent Price movies, and Tim Burton’s 6-minute short VINCENT. All of these are on Super-8 film with magnetic soundtrack and will be projected on a big screen. The Way Out Club is a 21+ Club!

Friday May 27th:
7:00pm – In LEE AUDITORIUM at the Missouri History Museum. An Evening With Victoria Price. The author of “Vincent Price, a Daughter’s Biography” will be making a multi-media presentation about her famous father. To be preceded by a performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart by local actor John Contini as Vincent Price. Admission is free.

Saturday May 28th:
8:30pm – Free outdoor screening in Forest Park (on the Muny parking lot) of EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990) to be preceded by Tim Burton’s VINCENT and Michael Jackson’s THRILLER on a giant inflatable screen.
