This is an awesome list and certainly agree how the choices can be subjective. Being an avid lover of movies, I’ve seen lots of them, and it’s quite hard to pick the top ones. However, I can see lots of my favorite movies on the compilation above, especially, Cinema Paradiso, Taxi Driver, Unforgiven, and many more..

I’m a HUGE Harryhausen fan, however, the point of he list is a bunch of movies thats “changed” you. None of the movies that Harryhausen was involved in “changed” me. Now if this list was for the Most influential people in film… He’d get top 5 without question.

Star Wars and LOTR have all of the blue screen and cgi technology, but “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad” was true magic. painstakenly done in stop motion. True magic that had not been seen in the movies.Harryhaussen was so far ahead of his time that it took computers and technology 30 years to catch up.

These aren’t necissarily my “favorite” movies, but those that changed me or the way I thought in some way.

10. Dead Alive – Changed my view of bad movies being fun.

9. Se7en – The bad guys can “WIN”???

8. City of Lost Children – Turned me into a huge fan of foreign film.

7. Primal Fear – Edward Norton lost to Cuba Gooding Jr at the Oscars… I’m still bitter about it.

6. Harvey – Turned me into a lifelong James Stewart fan.

5. Hudsucker Proxy – The first Coen Bros film I watched.

4. Lord of the Rings Trilogy – I’ve heard them described as my Generations Star Wars… I would have to agree.

3. Toy Story – Completely changed the animated films my kids and I watch.

2. Spellbound/Dark Days/Dear Zachary/I like killing Flies – I can’t choose… Every time I watch a great documentary I feel the need to tell everyone about it. I could add another 20-50 documentaries to this list.

1. Shawshank Redemption – I watched this for the first time when I was 12. It made three changes in my life. 1) Made me forget about Tim Robbins in Howard the Duck, 2) Made me love Morgan Freeman and 3) ensured that I would be a movie geek for the rest of my life.

10. “Night of the Living Dead”
Believe me it was much scarier then, when everybody had B&W tv’s.
I was 10 when I saw it, I ran all the way home.
9. “Sin Nombre”
great movie
8.”Heavy Traffic”
By far the best Bakshi Movie. One of the best animation period.
7.”Menace II Society”
It made me want to teach.
6. “Once Upon A Time in the West”
The flawless movie
5.”The Long Ships”
Seeing Poitier and widmark on the big screen was magical.
4. “100 Rifles”
Jim Brown in a love scene with bombshell Racquel Welch, in those times. One of the first nudity and inter racial.
3. “7th Voyage of Sinbad”
I was hooked on Harryhaussen after five minutes of this movie.
2. “Wifemistress”
1. “Shaft”
He was the closest thing to a Black Superhero. He was smart, tough and the ladies couldn’t resist him.
