Herzog just had 2 films (‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans’ & ‘My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done’) recently take part of the Toronto International Film Festival.   Now, he wants to run aspiring filmmakers and adventurists through a “Boot Camp” of sorts.

For the weekend of January 8-10, 2010 in Los Angeles, you can let Herzog order you around and offer you advice to be the guerilla filmmaker that you want to be…or to be all you can be.

Herzog states:

“The Rogue Film School is not for the faint-hearted; it is for those who have travelled on foot, who have worked as bouncers in sex clubs or as wardens in a lunatic asylum, for those who are willing to learn about lock-picking or forging shooting permits in countries not favoring their projects,” he said. “In short: it is for those who have a sense for poetry. For those who are pilgrims. For those who can tell a story to four-year-old children and hold their attention. For those who have a fire burning within. For those who have a dream.”

Each application is being personally reviewed by Werner Herzog, so not all will be accepted.   Once you are accepted, you will be required to pay the $1,450 Seminar Fee.   Cell phones, Laptops nor sound & video recording will be permitted.

If you were to read the Variety piece that was written yesterday about it, it sounds pretty crazy.   However, the seminar will take place in a conference room of a Los Angeles hotel.

At the end of the seminar, you will get a certificate of participation and a signed copy of Herzog’s film ‘Conquest of the Useless’.

More information can be found at The Rogue Film School’s website.

I is movie geek. Hear me rawr. Ok, time for the professional speak. I have always been a movie geek. For serious. My dad fed me on a healthy diet of Blade Runner & Clockwork Orange. My mother introduced me to horror & psychological thrillers like Rosemary's Baby & Robert Wise's The Haunting. These mere morsels of celluoid only whet my appetite. During my teenage years, you could find me searching for the next Full Moon pictures joint on the old VHS shelves. I dug through the archives of backwoods slashers of the 80's and ate spaghetti with the Italian maestros by the flavors of Bava, Argento & Fulci. Now, I have reached the lower realms of depravity by thinking that Cannibal Holocaust is required viewing & running a weekly podcast, DESTROY THE BRAIN!, covering horror & genre film. Hmmm, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead. Favorite Films: Halloween (1978), La Haine, Vertigo, Rosemary's Baby, Fight Club, Nightmare on Elm Street, Kidnapped (Rabid Dogs), The Blair Witch Project..and the list just keeps growing.
