Tribeca 2009: Day 1 Recap

After posting my list of most anticipated films of the festival this morning, I headed out for my first day of the Tribeca Film Festival. I left early in case anything went wrong and in an odd turn of events, I actually arrived even earlier than I expected. I had no problem getting my pass and the festival staff was really friendly. I grabbed whatever press materials were out and a free Snapple. I hung out in the Press Center for a little, playing around on the new iMacs they have set up.

With time to kill and not much going on in the press center because they were still setting up, I decided to head over to the theater early. I took my time and walked around the area to find places to eat nearby for future reference. In all my time in the city, I’ve only been to this area once or twice. I head over to the theater and settle in for the first film.

blackdynamite

Black Dynamite! I loved it. It was hysterical; a perfect way to kick off my festival experience. Scott said I would love it and he was right. The flick is superbad so all you jive turkeys better take note. After the film I headed up to the second floor in order to catch In the Loop. I did not know much about it other than that it is a British Comedy about Politics. I’m not one for politics and like most Americans, some British humor goes right over my head. However, I really enjoyed it.

After the films, I headed back to the Press Center to see if anything new was put out. Grabbed a few more press materials and a horrible Zone Perfect Nutrition Bar. I confirmed an interview for tomorrow morning and then made my way to the express bus home. Overall, I think it was a great first day. Tomorrow is a full schedule which has me at the festival from 10 am to 10 pm, and that’s if I don’t go to either of the 2 parties I was invited to.

I’ll try to get some pics for you guys soon. So far there really is not much to take pictures of though. My limited press pass has me missing all the star studded premieres. However, I will be attending the Hysterical Psycho premiere tomorrow. Can’t wait. I have a whole lot more lined up for all of you. Hope you enjoy the coverage.
