Peter Gabriel pulls out of Oscars Performance

Peter Gabriel, whose song “Down to Earth” from ‘Wall*E’ is nominated for an Academy Award, will not be performing at the Oscars ceremony.   He won’t sing in protest of  an apparently revamped presentation of best original song contenders. Gabriel says in a video on his Web site that he objects to the songs being shortened to 65 seconds apiece and made part of a medley.

“It’s a bit unfortunate because the songwriters, even though they’re a small part of the whole filmmaking process, we still work bloody hard and deserve a place in the ceremony as well,” the singer said.

The British musician says he’ll still attend the Oscars, but is hoping a gospel choir will stand in for him onstage.

Organizers have warned that this year’s ceremony will be full of new twists, including the way categories are presented. Â  Of course, that’s not stopping them from totally ignoring the true best film of the year, ‘The Dark Knight’.

What do you think? Â  Are you surprised that Gabriel has decided not to perform at the Oscars? Â  Do you even care? Â  Does this mean the only musical performance we get will basically be a scene from a Bollywood film? Â  Let us know by commenting below!
