WAMG First Look at ‘The Fall’

Many of you will remember director Tarsem Singh from his last film, also his first, titled The Cell. A movie which was either “loved it” or “hated it” by way of the viewers, I personally thought it was a cool visual experience, even if it failed to cinematically tell a decent story. His sophomore film is titled The Fall, perhaps a running theme on titles, and is a fantasy about a little girl who is hospitalized with a broken arm and meets a man confined to his bed. The man begins to tell the girl a fantastic story of five unique men on an adventure. As the man tells the tale, fiction begins to spin together with reality and vice-versa.

I hadn’t heard of this movie until I saw a trailer for it in the theatre. After doing a bit of research, I found that the film had its share of pitfalls and setbacks, but with every ounce of bad luck can come a pound of good fortune. Critics are already touting this visually stunning film as an epic fantasy of stellar brilliance. Now, how much of that is truth and how much is movie critic spin is difficult to say … but Roger Ebert calls it “magnificent” and I tend to respect his opinions. But, don’t let us determine anything for you … watch the trailer, see the movie and come to your own conclusions.
