Shoot A Movie At Your House, Get Distribution TWICE @ Slamdance

The LA Times reports the story of video game designer Oren Peli, who shot a feature length movie at his house with his wife, his camera, and three crew members on a budget of basically nothing. Jump to this year’s Slamdance Film Fest where audiences are apparently losing their minds over that film, Paranormal Activity. What’s better than Dreamworks buying the distribution rights to your D.I.Y. first time feature? How about them purchasing the advanced rights to the remake they want you to start filming immediately? Oh, right, that is better.

The LA Times goes on to say that Dreamworks plans to release the original on DVD with the new remake once it gets made and has its theatrical run. So, the next time you’re at home videotaping footage of your baby throwing up on grandma, realize that with a little special effects and some shaky camera work you could have the next Hollywood hit on your hands! Or you know, an ugly piece of crap.

While you ponder your film career, why don’t you check out the trailer for Oren’s movie at its official website?
